✌ South Africa is Kiff - More Creative Packaging ✌
Last week, I wrote about some interesting packaging we have here in South Africa, and I taught y'all a new word - KIFF!
To recap - KIFF is a word we use for everything that is awesome/cool/amazing/epic/KIFFFF - see here 😂😂😂
This week I am focusing on the packaging of tea, or TEH! as I like to call it. I find tea packaging to be generally quite pretty, all trying to elude some sort of calmness and serenity.
That's exactly why my eyes were drawn to the Nelson Mandela tea packaging in my cover pic above. It's vivid and quite the opposite of calm. To be honest - I think this packaging is very much jumping on the bandwagon - cue eyes rolling so far back I can see my brain - BUT - the imagery is beautifully bright and original. I think that the background patterns are perhaps inspired by Madiba's famously loud shirts.
This was being sold at the slightly pretentious Melissa's, which I reviewed a few weeks back. R75 ($6,30) for a tin of tea.... In my books, that is a tad bit much for some dried leaves. I think it's probably a great gift for a foreign friend, or take home if you are here travelling.
I bought this Chinese Peach Green tea at a massage parlour I went to in December. I was at the counter and smelt this wonderfully peachy scent. It reminds me of the instant oats you get with the pieces of dried peach. It is so dericious.
I like the packaging of this tea because of the colouring, but mainly I just LOLed so hard at the text on the back.
Ahem:
- in addition, it also has moisturising effect - ya mean it quenches your thirst? Or...?
- If you sometimes have the feeling of slight stress after drinking, which is resulted from being stimulated the brain nerve by the product slightly - ermmm, not too sure on this one - you're gonna get fookin wired from drinking this tea?many lolz
And now for some hipster tea. I love Earl Grey to the moon and back, and about once a month, I check out the tea and coffee aisle for a new tea to try. I come back to Earl Grey often, but this time I bought this brand. Honestly, the tea itself is nothing special, definitely not on par with Five Roses or any of the topnotch brands, but this packaging drew me in. Isn't that what good packaging is supposed to do though? Make the consumer purchase the product? Well done you cheeky bastard.
Moving swiftly onto some more rich people tea. If I remember correctly these boxes of tea were close to R150 ($12), which seems rather absurd. I apply the same method in my store, so I understand. Price good quality items high, package well, and obtain the illusion (well it's not really an illusion is it?) that it is an expensive product, and it will sell as a luxury item. Damn. Now I want to buy this expensive tea.
The packaging itself is really pretty. Whimsical and gentle, calming and peaceful, all the things a good tea should be.
That's all I have for you tonight, Team Steem 🌸🌸 Hope you loved my packaging exploration, I'd love to hear which was your favourite?

Ironically was drinking Red Tea however it lacked Mandela's face on the packaging :)

Another potent post 🚀 🚀
Thank you! It’s nice to see you so often. I will check out your blog in a few
Hmmmm. Tea packaging. One of the things in the world that I hadn't spent much time contemplating.
I'm guessing if I had to pick one, it'd be the Mandela packaging. I think evoking a dead guy's memory is almost cheeky past the point of good taste, but I once had an extensive collection of floral shirts from Hawaii. So I like the background.
Thanks for another really fun article.
Yup, my sentiments exactly! It is great looking though.
I love packaging in general, you can definitely expect more of these from me in the future
Epic. I read Richard Branson's book and he speaks highly of Mediba. I loved the packaging. and loved the cats lol
I wouldn't trust what the media tells you about anything. I can't tell you my opinion, as I never met the man. He did good things, that's for sure, but yeah, I think I might be too young for this debate :)
Also, there are cats all over my pics like this
Thanks for stopping by!
Never been a tea drinker myself but that’s quite the variety from cool packaging to perhaps exotic and expensive
Cheers
Tip!
Thanks so much. Sad thing is they are all locally made (with exception of the Chinese tea) and there is no actual reason for them to be so pricey.
Supply and demand I guess
Or companies will rip us off whenever they can get away with it

I love the mandala art behind Mandela. Pretty Kiff I would say.
Lol. Yeah I like it too
Mmmm I am in love with tea, always ready to discover a funky blend :) Maybe South Africa will be a option to taste some
we have a very special tea called Rooibos (red bush tea). Have you heard of this? It's my absolute favourite.
Yes of course I've heard of it. I prefer the red version :)
Packaging makes us want something, and those are Very attractive; so we have to buy. How it taste, or functionates is a care for later 😉
Exactly! I must say that once I find a good brand that I like, I do stick to it, regardless of packaging
This makes me think since your last post...that maybe S.A is becoming a happier place, the packaging is the precursor to the final presentation of a meal...or a drink...if they are artistically done like those that you have presented , then in my dreams South Africa will launch the new Human Beauty Renisance as the world becomes tokenized...nice dream, isnt it?
