The Door to Paradise

While strolling around the ancient Kalemegdan Fortress in Belgrade, I chanced upon a delightful opening that perfectly frames the beautiful view beyond. An old door leads out of the fortress to a lovely park with tall trees. The difference between the fortress walls and the view beyond is so prominent that one can only guess that they were created by magic.

Of course, such a lovely view attracts people. Throughout the afternoon, you could see crowds forming a continuous flow of tourists in front of the opening, with some of them taking a break to capture the image with their cameras or phones. However, I had a feeling that I needed to wait until there were no people in front of the door to capture it in its full glory. A good vantage point and some patience allowed me to get a nice shot without any other people in it. In order to emphasize the view outside, I kept the focus on the middle of the door. Additionally, with the help of some post-processing, I turned the whole composition more dramatic and gave it an ethereal look. To do this, I desaturated all colors except for the vibrant green color of the park. This way, the viewer will be able to get fully immersed in the beauty of this place, experiencing the same sense of wonder I did when I first saw this view.

Kalemegdan Fortress is located above the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, which has made the area an important crossroads of ancient civilizations. The fortress is therefore a unique architectural and geographical structure, as the area had been built and rebuilt many times throughout history, once serving as the stronghold of Celts, Romans, Byzantines, Ottomans, and the Austro-Hungarian Empire. As a result, the beautiful views of the park surrounding Kalemegdan Fortress are both convenient and unique for all who wish to explore Belgrade.
