Buddha Jayanti, also known as Buddha Purnima or Vesak, is one of the most important festivals for Buddhists around the world. It celebrates the birth, enlightenment, and death (Mahaparinirvana) of Gautama Buddha.
This special day usually falls in April or May on the full moon day. In Nepal, it is celebrated with great respect, especially in Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha.
On Buddha Jayanti, people visit monasteries and temples, offer prayers, light butter lamps, and decorate homes with flowers and flags. Many Buddhists follow the teachings of peace, kindness, and non-violence. They also give food and help the poor as a way of spreading compassion.
Temples are beautifully decorated, and monks chant prayers. Processions and cultural programs are also organized in different places. In Lumbini, thousands of pilgrims from all over the world gather to celebrate this sacred day.
