RE: "Eventbrite is now off my list
Talking bout needing a phone - I have dropped / cancelled my monthly post pay phone with AT&T several months ago.
Instead of it, which costed me over $70 / month, I got a pre-pay service and changed it to $2 / day if used.
I then switched to "airplane mode" to not use that but use an IP phone app which cost me nothing to use and also gave me a new number.
Phone numbers from phone contracts are used for identity verification with some government agencies - IRS / soc. sec. and they might require a landline in some instances.
So, that is more the reason for me to ditch all such phone services.
I thought about a 'burner' phone..
problem is that the ones I looked at were 'use it or lose it'.
I see no reason to pay for time that I wouldn't use.
(I receive about one phone call a day...a minute, perhaps two, long)
burner phones can still be traced to the purchaser.
google voice is traceable to the associated gmail and that can be a "burner email" although it will be associated with the recovery phone number or email.
IP phone is traceable to the IP address only and perhaps the phones serial number ...
you misunderstand.
I have nothing to hide.
I just don't want to be bothered.
What I also use is google voice. I only give out my google voice number and it saved me a lot of time not having to answer calls. Google voice translates phone messages to text and I can just look at the message and I can block it within the google voice app.
pre-paid pones require at lease $10 / month to renew the service but you don't have to use any of your balance. I seldom use mine - I switched off the airplane mode when I expected important incoming calls on that day only and if used, $2 / day covers everything unlimited.
