Faithfulness in Psalm 111: The LORD'S deeds are spectacular. They should be studied by all who enjoy them. Psalm 111:2

Psalm 111 is a hymn of praise to God's goodness and wisdom. The Lord is perfect and should be glorified for his works; this is why the Psalm begins with these words: "I will give thanks to the LORD with all my heart in the company of decent people and in the congregation" Psalm 111:1.
But then the Psalm continues with these words: "The LORD's deeds are spectacular. They should be studied by all who enjoy them" Psalm 111:2. With this, the song reminds Bible readers that men do not need faith to recognize God, because the Lord makes himself evident through his works. The Psalms, as a form of sapiential literature, emphasize security or trust in God, not faith. Faith has to do with something that is not fully known. When men recognize that everything in the universe is the work of a wise and merciful God, that is when security in God begins. And then the Psalm alludes to wisdom; men who love the works of God must study them, affirms the Psalm, and this corresponds to the most perfect science. In other words, true spirituality cannot be understood without understanding the highest science, the science that studies the principles of all things. Everything else is superficiality, an empty shell. Spirituality that is not based on wisdom is a spirituality incapable of solving practical problems, problems of daily life.
Psalm 111, besides being a praise to God, is a call to humanity to live with wisdom, trust in God, and faithfulness. For this is the spiritual response God requires of humankind. This is why, after listing metaphorically various wonders performed by God, such as the manna that fed the Israelites in the desert and the bestowal of a promised land, the Psalm ends with the need for the spiritual gift of fear of God (constancy, firmness, devotion), that is, with that spiritual gift that gives the beginning to the spiritual life of man and bears fruit in the greater gifts, such as the love for God and the contemplative life. And so the anthem ends with these words: "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom. Good sense is shown by everyone who follows God's guiding principles" Psalm 111:10.
