Die ersten Wochen als FISI [GER/ENG]
Hallo meine lieben Squadis,
in meinem Powerup-Post habe ich ja darüber gesprochen, dass ich über meine Erfahrungen während der ersten Wochen meiner Umschulung schreiben werde, und nun tue ich das hiermit auch.
Am 13.07. habe ich mit der Umschulung zum FISI angefangen. Hätte ich gewusst, dass nach dieser ersten Woche direkt zwei Wochen Betriebsferien sind, dann hätte ich mir diese Woche auch noch gespart.
In der ersten Woche haben wir Excel gemacht und bis auf verschachtelte WENN-Funktionen habe ich auch nichts Neues gelernt während der Zeit.Die erste Woche war sowieso lustig: zwei Tage da und schon Homeoffice, weil im ganzen Gebäude das Wasser abgestellt wurde, also ab Mittwoch Homeoffice.
An dem Mittwoch habe ich eine Krise bekommen. 10 Minuten vor dem Start des Homeoffice meinte das teure Omen Book 16 auf einmal: Nöö, Tastatur brauchst du heute nicht. Auch eine externe USB-Tastatur wurde auf einmal nicht mehr erkannt, also habe ich meinen ersten Tag Homeoffice mit LibreOffice und meinem Linux-Desktop hinter mich gebracht. Ich konnte mich übrigens nur wegen der Bildschirmtastatur ins Windows einloggen.
Nach dem Unterricht habe ich noch eine Stunde rumprobiert, bis ich die Tastatur wieder zum Laufen bekommen habe. Ende vom Lied war: Ich musste den Trackpad-Treiber (das Trackpad hat funktioniert) installieren und Windows neu starten, danach funktionierte die Tastatur auch wieder.
Am 03.08. ging es dann nach den Sommerferien für uns weiter mit der Umschulung. Für diese Woche steht auf dem Programm: Projektmanagement. Ziemlich trocken, aber wohl doch wichtig.
Was mir gerade ein bisschen Probleme bereitet, ist die Logik dahinter, wie ich Netzpläne am besten zeichne. Das Rechnen ist nicht das Problem, nur die Logik, wie ich diese Dinger zeichne.
Eines muss ich jetzt aber mal echt sagen: Der Stoff ist nicht das Problem, aber was mich echt fertigmacht, ist die Deutsche Bahn.Für eine Strecke, die normalerweise 40 Minuten dauert, brauche ich momentan zwischen 90 und 120 Minuten. Das macht richtig Spaß bei dieser Hitze am Bahnhof zu stehen und darauf zu warten, dass endlich mal ein Zug kommt.
Ich habe mittlerweile auch etwas gefunden, was ich gerne im Praktikum machen möchte, und somit auch eine Motivation für die nächsten 12 Monate im BFW Dortmund.
Ende August 2027 startet die sechsmonatige Praktikumsphase und ich habe mir überlegt, dass es sicherheitstechnisch und netzwerktechnisch sicherlich sehr interessant wäre, wenn ich dabei helfen könnte, die ganzen IoT-Sicherheitsanlagen und die ganzen Aufzugnotrufsysteme von GSM nach LTE oder direkt 5G upzugraden.
Wer es von euch noch nicht weiß: Zwischen 2028 und 2030 schalten die deutschen Provider das GSM-Netz ab, besser bekannt als 2G. Die Deutsche Telekom und o2 machen dies bereits 2028, nur Vodafone lässt sich bis 2030 Zeit dafür.
Alle Aufzugnotrufsysteme in Deutschland laufen über das GSM-Netz und somit sind schätzungsweise 800.000 Aufzüge umzurüsten.

in my Powerup post I talked about how I would write about my experiences during the first weeks of my retraining, and now I am doing just that.
On July 13th I started my retraining as an IT Specialist for System Integration (FISI), and if I had known that directly after this first week there would be two weeks of company holidays, I would have saved myself this week as well.
In the first week we did Excel and, except for nested IF functions, I didn't learn anything new during that time.The first week was funny anyway: two days there and already working from home because the water was shut off in the entire building, so home office starting Wednesday.
On that Wednesday I had a bit of a crisis. 10 minutes before starting home office, my expensive Omen Book 16 suddenly decided: Nope, you don't need a keyboard today.Even an external USB keyboard was suddenly no longer recognized, so I got through my first day of home office using LibreOffice and my Linux desktop. By the way, I was only able to log into Windows because of the on-screen keyboard.
After class I spent another hour trying things out until I got the keyboard working again. The end of the story was that I had to install the trackpad driver (the trackpad was working) and restart Windows, and after that the keyboard worked again.
On August 3rd, after the summer break, our retraining continued, and on the schedule for this week is project management, pretty dry but probably important after all.
What is giving me a bit of trouble right now is the logic behind how to best draw network diagrams. The calculation isn't the problem, just the logic of how to draw these things.
One thing I really have to say though: The material isn't the problem, but what is really wearing me down is Deutsche Bahn. For a route that normally takes 40 minutes, I currently need between 90 and 120 minutes. It is so much fun standing at the train station in this heat waiting for a train to finally arrive.
In the meantime, I have also found something I would like to do during my internship, giving me motivation for the next 12 months at BFW Dortmund.
At the end of August 2027 the six-month internship phase begins, and I thought it would certainly be very interesting from a security and networking perspective if I could help upgrade all the IoT security systems and elevator emergency call systems from GSM to LTE or directly to 5G.
In case you didn't know yet: Between 2028 and 2030, German providers will shut down the GSM network, better known as 2G. Deutsche Telekom and o2 are already doing this in 2028, only Vodafone is taking its time until 2030.
All elevator emergency call systems in Germany run on the GSM network, which means an estimated 800,000 elevators need to be retrofitted.

Sinnvoller als Aufzüge wäre es die Bahn upzugraden :-)

I can imagine it'd be challenging to adjust to remote work suddenly, especially after just two days of in-class learning - did the unexpected home office arrangement affect your productivity or routine at all? 🤔💻
