THAT GOOD PART

“But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NKJV)

The needed thing in a believer’s life is to sit at Jesus’ feet, like Mary did. It is the good part being referred to by Jesus Christ which would not be taken away from her. There are many believers who do not have time to sit at Jesus’ feet and learn, yet they wanted to please Him, saying, they are working for Him. You cannot effectively work for Jesus Christ, God, if you had not sat at Jesus’ feet and learn.

The first and primary assignment of whoever would work for God is to be with Him. When Jesus chose the twelve disciples, they were meant to be with Him before they would be sent out or assigned to do anything: "And he [Jesus] went up on the mountain and called to him those he himself wanted. And they came to him. Then he appointed twelve, that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach, and to have power to heal sicknesses and to cast out demons” (Mark 3:13–15 NKJV).

Being with Him preceded being sent or being assigned and being empowered. What would you tell the people that you claimed you are sent or assigned to serve or minister to? Martha did believe she was serving Jesus Christ, wanted to prepare a meal for Him. She was striving to get a food ready for Him to eat, but that was not the primary thing that Jesus expected from Martha.

Listening to Jesus’ Word; practicing or walking in the light of it, is much more important to Christ Jesus than whatever you might claim you are doing for Him or His Kingdom.

How much time do you spend with God daily? How is your intimacy with Him? Your communion or fellowship with God, how is it?

If you are shallow or not consistent in your fellowshipping with God, there is little or nothing that you could do for Him. In other words, God would not invest so much in whoever is not intimate with Him, because the effectiveness of such a person would be minimal.

Peace.
