African Elephant in the Addo Elephant National Park
The Addo Elephant National Park was established in 1931 to protect the last few elephant remaining in this area. It is the third largest National Park in South Africa and is situated in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa 72 km by road from the coastal city of Port Elizabeth. At the time the Addo Elephant National Park was established, it was a sanctuary for just 11 elephant remaining in this area. This number has since grown to over 600.
The Big 5 are all found here (Elephant, Buffalo, Rhino, Lion and Leopard) as well as many other animals and birds.
On a recent day visit we saw - Springbok, Eland, Red Heartebeest, Kudu, Warthog, Buffalo, Black Rhino and of course - Elephant. Another unusual animal that is protected here is the endangered Flightless Bung Beetle
I can only imagine
Such a wonderful and intelligent creature. I hope our grandchildren will be able to know them, and not only in zoos.
Let’s hope our specie does not destruct their ecosystem
The ostrich is also protected and it is also one of the prides of south africa. Nice one.

well post ..... very crative inforamtion.
thanks for that......
Such majestic creature. However, I once saw a documentary about Africa an people who were living near elephants weren't exactly happy with their presence. Something to do with them ruining their crops.
Yes this has happened in some areas in Africa. It could also be a reason given to hunt / poach Elephant for their tusks. Being able to sepperate the genuine cases where there might be a problem Elephant and cases where people have poached Elephant and when questioned they claim the Elephant was a problem. The Addo Elephant National Park is adeptly fenced to keep the Elephant in.
good quality photo & and also very good detail info. have a nice day
Hopefully there is no culture of riding elephants!
nice pic.
following you!
PLease consider following back
They are so elegant. Poor animals hunter's hunting them down and selling their tooths. This is so sad when we as humans the smartest creature on earth act like virus... We grow and try to remove everything from our society.
