A Temple

This is a church (a place of worship or a religious service location) for Christians in my area. It is more than just a building made of walls, roofs and chairs. It is a place where different individuals come together in worship of the Lord and presenting their burdens to Him.

Inside the church, you can feel a serene atmosphere that feels calm and reflective. Listening to hymns and sermons brings you to the reality of who God really is and his ways. You are reminded about love, forgiveness, patience and kindness, it also encourages people to have a better living with others

Beyond worship, the church is a place of support. It brings comfort to the grieving and strength to the weak. It is where people celebrate their joyful moments like weddings, baptism, child dedications etc.. because in the presence of God, there is fullness of joy. And still where we find comfort during lost moments.

The church reflects human need for connection, not just with God, but with one another. It helps us understand that faith is not just spoken in words but shown in our relationship with people in our daily lives.

Operational History

St Thomas More Catholic Chaplaincy UNILAG

The St Thomas More Catholic Chaplaincy, UNILAG began as a Catholic student community where catholic students come together to worship in the campus. Overtime, the population grew and issues of space and timing became difficult so the school in agreement with the community, gradually developed a more defined structure as a chaplaincy dedicated to the catholic students and staff.

The chaplaincy was formally established and dedicated in 2009 on its present site within UNILAG and has function as a spiritual home for all catholics in the university environment and not just the students.

Since it's establishment, the chaplaincy has been led by different appointed priests (chaplains) who oversees its spiritual, pastoral and administrative activities. It operates as a center for daily masses, sundy masses, faith based activities and the catholic student association activities.

Over the years, it has grown into a strong community based church for the students and staffs, collaborating with other church bodies in supporting the academic and spiritual development within UNILAG.

Today, the chaplaincy has continued it's mission of worship, playing an active role in the religious life of the university.

The roles and responsibilities of a temple priest

A temple priest plays a very important role in maintaining the religious and spiritual life of a temple community. Their duties are more than performing rituals, they stand in gap for the people, acting as an intermediary or a middle man between people and God.

• Performing rituals

These are found during some celebrations like sunday masses, everyday masses, weddings etc... where the priest offer prayers, worships, chants, to God. These rituals help maintain the spiritual atmosphere of the church.

• Guiding worshippers spiritually

This is where the priest is seen spending time in teaching the word, explaining to worshippers what they do not understand in faith. When a worshipper feels heavy or doubts with continuity in faith, the priest is always present to help them remain in faith.

• Maintenance of the church worship space

The priest see to the orderliness of the worship space; making sure the temple is clean and in it's right place before any worship begins.

Environmental Impact

Any place of worship without a serene environment wouldn't be called a place of worship because God works and operstes in a very clean and quiet environment.

Judging from the images that this church has got a peaceful atmosphere. When I entered the environment, I didn't even speak out because I could hear myself communicating to God in my spirit.

This is an environment you can come in and feel peaceful even if you had left a chaos home. I was just watching the environment and it's peaceful nature and adored it so much. It gave me a sense of belonging and acceptance. Its just a place to be.

I was carried away and forgot to take a selfie. Due to some security reasons in the country, some areas are not allowed to be captured, especially inside the temple and resident area!
