This was personal and very poignant, I am sure you both loved each other though we are all full of flaws, at the end we can only live our lives as it's ours and noone elses, everyone has different ways of thinking and I think the key is to understand we all have different aspirations.
Her decision though in a way may have been a burden for your pa too, it's a tough one to take, takes courage but also lacked courage (sorry to say) both things, and that is how we can all be contradictory beings. Sorry for your loss btw
We had always been raised with an awareness of the life cycle. We may not get to choose when and how but it's coming, so, dad was able to make peace with her choice. The unexpected almost 3 years more likely helped too. He missed her a lot though.
