They are the most important part of our environment.
The most significant contribution of forests is the provision of oxygen. During the process of photosynthesis, trees absorb carbon dioxide and release pure oxygen. Furthermore:
Climate Regulation: Forests play a vital role in bringing about rainfall and help in curbing rising temperatures (Global Warming).
Soil Conservation: Tree roots firmly bind the soil, thereby preventing soil erosion and preserving the fertility of the land.
Source of Resources: We derive valuable products such as timber, fruits, medicinal herbs, gum, and honey from forests. Even today, a large segment of the global population relies on forests for their livelihood.
Habitat for Wildlife: Forests provide a natural habitat and sanctuary for countless species.
Today, amidst the relentless race of industrialization and urbanization, deforestation is occurring at an alarming rate. If trees continue to be felled at this pace, we will face severe challenges in the future, such as acute water crises, famines, and pollution. As forest cover diminishes, wild animals are increasingly encroaching upon residential areas, leading to a rise in human-wildlife conflict.
