I highly recommend homemade vanilla extract using brandy (or rum, or vodka) if you ever get a chance. A friend made us some for Christmas once and we have loved it ever since. The recipie- get a bottle of brandy, get at least 7 vanilla beans, slice the vanilla beans to open them lengthwise. Then put the beans into the bottle. Shake well. Wait 1 month. Every time you use any vanilla beans, add whats left of them to the bottle. Use extract as needed, refill bottle as needed. :)
