Early gaming difficulty with GTA5 - Mission: Repossession

in #gamingyesterday

I'm a noob. I know this and of course I realize that there is going to be a learning curve with any new game that you play. Otherwise, the games would be boring and too simple.

But here are a few things that I have really struggled with and thankfully, I think the devs were aware of this and made certain checkpoints automatic so as to not frustrate you into quitting.

This game does a really good job of introducing you to the game in a way that doesn't even tell you the buttons. You just have to figure it out in an environment where you can't really lose to terribly if you get it wrong. These were the first 2 missions where you are introduced to a fun little interactive cinematic bank heist as well as repossessing two luxury cars where the driving was anything but easy.

Later on though, you start to get into the real game where you actually have some choice as to how you are going to continue. This was also where I started to have some issues and got a bit frustrated.

Repossession

That's the name of the first real mission that you carry out with Franklin (a main character) and Lamar, where you have to go and find and take back a high-end motorcycle.

I think this is going to be a recurring theme, but you pull up and search around looking for something and after a while you enter the cutscene that leads to the real action. This is where you get introduced to basic handgun combat and how the system really helps you a lot with this.

The auto-aim is strong in this game and this is probably a good thing for lil ol' me because I often couldn't even tell where the enemy was. I blame my fading eyesight and the fact that my tv is on the other side of the room from my sofa.

This is all fine and dandy and I think they make it easy enough that you are unlikely to fail provided you don't just stand in the middle of the alley with zero cover.

But then things got frustrating for me

At some point while chasing the guy on the motorcycle you get close enough to him and you have to drive the car, avoid obstacles, and also aim and fire a weapon at him only this time the auto-aim wasn't helping me. Perhaps it is something in my settings that I missed. I crashed the car so many times trying to get close to this guy and every time it starts you back at the yard where you first encounter the bike.

I found this to be a lot to do for one person. Damn you Lamar for doing nothing but being a passenger! I did eventually pull it off though and the first time I got on the bike to drive it back I was unable to avoid the police and ended up getting killed by run-over. I was sooooo thankful that at this point it had auto-saved after shooting the driver of the bike and didn't make me do all of that all over again.

Apparently you can shoot the guy driving the bike before he ever takes off and then you avoid the car chase altogether. This isn't very evident though and the only way you could figure this out would be by doing a replay or by "cheating" and looking it up on the internet beforehand.

I guess you could say that now it is over I am kind of glad that it happened. My driving skills improved a great deal by doing it wrong so many times in a row and I am happy that I didn't quit. I did also find out that I much prefer and am more adept at driving a motorcycle than I am at driving a car. Now if I could just figure out how to not lose the motorcycle once I park it somewhere. Perhaps if i put it in my own garage?

I will say this though: i can tell already that this is NOT a game that you can take a bunch of days or even weeks away from. The buttons on the PS5 controller are used in their entirety and that is a lot for my old brain to remember.

I did notice from watching some other people's playthroughs on YT that they didn't get the police after them when they shot and killed the guy on the road but I always did. Maybe it is because it is because it is my first playthrough?
