RE: Giving Steem
Hi aggroed, that is a very interesting idea. I wonder if it conflicts with my support for the whale no vote experiment? I saw your very interesting analysis on what would happen after HF19 and the whales started to vote again. I think the linear reward curve may very well need to be combined with a continuation of the experiment. I think I would gladly donate my SP to your minnow support project. How does one use the SP delegation function? I will think about whether to do it right away or after hf19.
Thanks! There's aren't a lot of people strictly lookin' out for the minnows... HF 19 is going to be a mess of epic proportions and only drastic culturual measures will counter act it. Delegation is a cli-wallet function. I haven't done it personally, but @neoxian and @ausbitbank have and they can direct you a little better and both support the project.
Well then, i will delegate (small edit from donate to delegate...i'm not that generous! :) ) my SP to your initiative. I don't believe the whales i'm supporting will mind in this case, hf19 is on the doorstep in any case and perhaps my SP will be better utilised in this way. So if neoxian or ausbitbank can sort me out, you can have my SP power until I have need of it :)
WOOHOO! I'll get right on it!
This should be awesome. Can't wait to write about it!!!

That's the easiest tool to use and it was suggested by @ausbitbank.
Here's the current ratio of vests to SP
2070650.598418 VESTS = delegate 1000 SP
There's 400 minnows that are going to be thrilled!
Well, ausbitbank tried to help me set it up...but we hit a bit of a roadblock, we were unable to make it work, the page kept producing an error. He's going to look into it.
I am going to delegate 90,000 SP but that means you'll need to significantly reduce your voting weight and upscale the number of minnows you are giving a chance. If it causes any administrative burdens or unintended consequences, we'll have to re-evaluate. Let's give it a go if you are up for it and we can cancel if issues arise. I will need the SP back at some point but I hope it will do some good until then.
I am extending a deal of trust...but I think that trust is deserved. I like the way you guys operate and are thinking.
Ausbitbank is going to figure out the issue, then we'll get going and see how we get on. Ok?
Sounds awesome. We are at 982 votes today and 380 people in the Discord room. I think the announcement will draw people so, for the first day the voting strength might be a little high but it should equilabrate around 30-40% and maybe even less if the number of people zooms. That should limit individual excessive rewards after a day or two.
I understand this as a lending arrangement and not a donation. You can take it back, as is your right, any time you want. At this rate, especially with a delegation, we will have about 1000 people and 2000 votes on it by Sunday. You're gonna get a lot of thank you notes!
You and aus I'm sure can make it work and if not there are some even more tech whales we can involve. Thanks for your patience to see it through.
I'm grateful for this opportunity and your trust and look forward to helping a thousand people a day with your backing and support and our continued efforts as publicly elected Witnesses running a public group.
You are of course welcome in the Discord channel at any time to be bathed in gratitude and check for abuse. You'll be happy to know the bot has a limited tolerance for voting in a given period limiting an individuals ability to spam upvote themselves. Also all upvote are done in a public forum reducing chances of a shitpost with public scrutiny. Lastly, larger votes will eventually be available, but only through members that have gone through training, worked on a community project, put out a post to serve as a public promise and I can sign a comment as an executed contract, and they have the disposition to allow the long term benefits of smart use to outweigh abuse.
We're gonna help a lot of minnows!
Should be fun!
Aggroed
ausbitbank figured it out. The delegation was successful. Thanks for the above, I don't need any gratitude. I'm doing it for the same reasons you are and others that are trying to help people. I'd love to know how things are going from time-to-time. Good luck ;)
Why a mess of epic proportions? This is the first I've heard that prediction.
I was wondering why you commented on my post with such positive things to say and didn't vote. I didn't wanna say anything to pester you about it. I seeeeeeeeeeeee
sorry....wrong post. I thought I was in the logo competition! :)
?? No I just didn't realize that the whale no upvote agreement included you
I was one of the people that suggested for the whales to stop voting and offered to share their "no curation rewards" fate. So once they had implemented and I saw they were serious, I supported it as I had said. I don't know if that meant anything to them or not, but it mean't something to me :) I'm still not getting any curation rewards so I think switching to delegation to support a whole bunch of minnows seems ok.
I just knew there was an experiment but it's about to end, right?
Yes, I understand that the whales will begin voting again once the new linear rewards have been implemented in HF19. Though, I really hope they all decide to continue not voting or voting with drastically reduced power. The linear rewards are not likely to be enough on their own.
Was it really that bad before the non-voting agreement? I guess it must have been effective if you want to keep it up? I'm guessing not all the whales are onboard otherwise we wouldn't have a bunch of $500-1000 posts, right?
Why not just have an agreement to reduce voting percentage to 5% or something like that? It seems more fair than dropping out altogether.
The issue is that someone must take a hit. Not every whale wanted to participate so the other whales were down voting their full power upvotes in order to neutralize them. The positive effect was to make more of the reward pool available further down the steem holdings structure.....people with less power found they were awarding something meaningful rather than next-to-nothing. This is absolutely critical to the success of steemit. It requires sacrifice to make this platform really sing!
