Im still a NOOB, but is the search function broken, or am i missing something?

im using ParrotSec (debian) Firefox, and when i search for something the screen goes white, it still says steemit, but nothing else, am i missing something?
I actually have never been able to use the search function.
any help would be greatly appreaciated!
