1976: in Spain - after the end of Franco's dictatorship - Adolfo Suárez is appointed president of the government.

1985: In the United States, the film Volver a Futuro is released, one of the most successful films in the history of cinema.

1988: the American cruiser Vincennes fires missiles against an Iranian civil Airbus plane (Flight 655 of Iran Air). The 290 occupants die. Vice President George W. Bush will decorate the person responsible for the cruise, and will affirm: "I do not care what the facts say: I will never apologize for the United States. [...] Life goes on ».1

1988: the Televen channel starts broadcasting in Venezuela.

1992: in the city of Oro Verde (Argentina) eight bioengineers graduate, the first collation of the Faculty of Engineering belonging to the National University of Entre Ríos (UNER). Since then on this date is celebrated in Argentina the Day of the Bioengineer.

1993: Jorge Carpio Nicolle (presidential candidate) is killed in the department of Quiché (Guatemala), along with three UCN members during a political tour of the western part of the country.

1997: 18 workers die in the shipyard in Valencia in an accident after a fuel explosion on the ship Proof Spirit.2

1998: launch of the Japanese probe Nozomi to Mars, but months later it will not manage to enter Martian orbit.

1999: in Mallorca (Balearic Islands), the Son Moix stadium is inaugurated.

2002: launch of the space probe Contour, which will stop working a few weeks later.

2004: in Spain: the secretary general of the PSOE, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, is re-elected with 95% of the delegates in the federal congress of his party.

2005: in Spain the legislation that allows marriage between people of the same sex comes into force.

2006: 43 people die in Valencia in an accident on the metro and 150 passengers are evacuated.

2007: the Swiss team Alinghi wins the 32nd edition of the America's Cup sailing held in Valencia (Spain) in the seventh race.3

2013: in Cairo (Egypt), the armed forces overthrew President Mohamed Morsi after four days of popular protests. Adly Mansour (president of the Supreme Court) is declared president.
