Writing || The importance of character education at the elementary level
Dear friends, admins, and all moderators of our beloved community. May we always be under His protection!
Character education is education that prioritizes instilling religious, moral, social, and cooperative values in children. Character education is the initial foundation that must be built so that other general education can run smoothly.
Character education at the elementary level, in this case elementary school (SD), is crucial for every educator. By instilling and building a foundation of morals, ethics, and integrity at the elementary level, it will help students become individuals with noble character, discipline, and responsibility.
Character education at the elementary level plays a crucial role in shaping children's personalities. This is because at this stage, children are in a very critical developmental period, where moral and ethical values can be firmly embedded. Therefore, through character education, students are taught all the noble values of personality.
In the school environment, teachers are the primary figures in instilling and teaching character education to children. Likewise, in the family and community, parents are naturally more responsible for instilling these values in their children.
Because without good character, children will certainly not study diligently, will not respect their teachers and parents, will disrupt classmates, and experience other negative effects.
We often hear news about the world of education. Recently, we even saw high school students who disrespected their teachers and even made them cry in class during their lessons. Why does this happen, and are teachers not teaching character education at the elementary level?
The answer is that every teacher at the elementary level certainly carries out their duties well, namely instilling character values in their students. However, students spend more time with their families and their surroundings, perhaps with their parents, their neighborhood, and their social circles, which makes this possible.
Thus, character development in children, especially at the elementary level, not only has a positive impact on the school and home environment but also on themselves, where they can apply what they have learned to face future challenges.
