Another dangerous job replaced by robots

Inside silos and warehouses

China deployed its first autonomous grain-leveling robots to replace an essential, heavy and dangerous task, spreading and adjusting huge piles of corn, soybeans and other grains inside silos and warehouses. It is a little known strategic work. When the grain is poorly distributed, areas of irregular pressure, humidity accumulation, increased temperature and risk of large-scale deterioration arise, this means loss of food worth millions of dollars.

Until now, human teams had to enter these closed environments, walk on unstable surfaces and work for hours surrounded by dense dust. Now done by robots, the new machines use artificial intelligence to navigate themselves over piles of grain, breaking down hardened crusts, redistributing the material and ensuring a uniform surface for safe storage.

The increase in productivity is impressive, an operation that previously took up to 3 days of manual work can be completed in just one day, but the biggest change may be in safety. Grain storage environments hide serious risks, asphyxiation, burial, flammable dust and difficulty of rescue in cases of accident, with remote operation, workers remain outside the danger zone.

It's a powerful exchange.

With less human effort or less exposure and more control, these thefts can also inspect temperature, measure humidity, identify signs of spoilage and anticipate problems before tons of food is compromised. In other words, they stop being simple machines and begin to function as intelligent guardians of the food chain, but nothing shows the size of this transformation better than when an entire company decides to automate its infrastructure.
