Hello everyone, I am @freshgrace. It is with great delight that I am giving the summary report of our 37th International Conference and 40th Anniversary Celebration of the National Association of Biblical Studies (NABIS) which was held at Akwa Ibom State University, Obio Akpa campus, Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom for four (4) days.

In my previous post, I explained how our plan “B” saved my boss from embarrassment. That was because he listened to those he worked with. However, this post is the entire summary from the planning to the conclusion of the conference.

The National president of NABIS happens to be my lecturer here at the University of Uyo.

Immediately the NABIS Conference was scheduled to hold in Akwa Ibom State, he informed his students to get involved in the planning and also prepare to present a paper as one of the criteria for being his student in the Bible Studies and as well as the religious and cultural studies department.

He told me specifically to work with him and the National Secretary in every aspect of the planning. I had the opportunity to arrange the book now abstracts for the conference, ensuring other preparations including award production, lapel, gowns, printing of the programme of the event, and his book to be launched during the conference.

I was carrying a lot to deliver before the conference. It supervised every aspect on his behalf because he traveled to China and spent 10 days there. The necessary corrections from him were done online, as I was on ground to physically ensure compliance with the graphic designer, the tailor, the printer, and the buying of registration materials.

Booking Hotel, Going for Award Production and checking on the Tailor - Scr Samsung A05

14th July was the arrival and first day of the conference. I waited to receive participants from Abuja, Lagos, Benue State, Oyo, and various universities. I checked them into their hotel rooms. The NABIS executives arrived also, and we were taken to their respective locations.

On ensuring that they were checked in, I went to where the award for the Honorable fellows were produced. From there to the printing press, before going to keep disturbing the tailor who disappointed us. He couldn't deliver the academic gowns when needed.

The conference went as planned, I presented amongst others. And it was my first conference paper presentation during a breakout session. The commissioned papers we always delivered accordingly and critiquing was done constructively.

Papers presentations, Award Ceremony and Plenary Session - Scr Samsung A05

On the 3rd day, we had a plenary session that ended the conference. Few of the fellows who were still present were decorated with their gowns. The Vice Chancellor of the University, the head of department (Religious and Cultural Studies), unanimously welcomed us and made our stay comfortable.

We had dinner before departing to Uyo that same night. I got to Uyo about 10pm. While I was on the road, my wife called, and my son demanded bread. I had to stop by and make his demand possible. I got home and reunited with my family after such a busy week.

LESSONS/SUMMARY

I learned a lot from the conference. Assisting my boss was the best experience. It was time demanding, energy draining, and abandoning my personal engagements to focus on the success of the conference. Many believed in me, and I didn't need a second chance to prove my efficiency. I used the opportunity of arranging abstracts to learn from seasoned professors who have been in the academic line for years. Young and energy-efficient PhD. students and lecturers were all there for me to learn from. Many of them inspired me the most, and I believe I will get there, and I will be of great impact to society at large.

WHEN YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE, DO IT WELL.
