Black Cat, White Cat was released in 1998. It is a romantic black comedy movie directed by Emir Kusturica and describes the weird life of Serbian gypsies who live close to the Bulgarian border.
The movie characters speak in a mixture of Balkan languages / Romani, Serbian, Bulgarian, Trukish / and even words and phrases in English/ “Who me?”, “This is tha beggening of a-beautiful fren`ship”/.

THE PLOT
The story begins with Matko Destanov, an unfortunate Romani smuggler and gambler who has plans to steal a whole train of smuggled fuel. Matko lives with his teenage son Zare Destanov in a decaying house by the Danube River, has no wife or real friends nor the brains to stay out of trouble.
In order to obtain a loan that would would help him arrange the train robbery, he visits Grga Pitić, an old friend of his father.
Grga is an old and respected wheelchair-bound gangster, who doesnt think highly of Matko but is ready to do anything for his old friend Zarije Destanov /Matko's father /. Thats why Pitić gives Matko the money.
Matko plots the details of the job with another gangster named Dadan, a rich, Roma criminal who thinks of himself as a “patriot-businessman” and whose most impressive features are drug-snorting , grenades juggling, and cheating /whenever possible/. Its no surprise that Dadan double-crosses Matko and carries out the job himself while Matko is unconscious. Poor Matko is unable to repay his loan, so Dadan makes a deal whereby he would forgive the debt if Matkos son Zare marries Afrodita, Dadan's dwarf sister. Matko agrees /after being kicked a few times by Dadan and his bodyguards/ but the real problem is that Zare (17) is in love with Ida (26), a barmaid who works in a pub run by her Roma grandmother.
If you find it interesting so far please, watch the movie to see the end. You won`t regret it, I promise.

THE MUSIC

Music has an important place in this movie, as it is present in almost every scene. It`s mostly Roma music /the title song sung brilliantly by Saban Bajramovic/

Another great parody is Dadan`s cover of Money, money /ABBA/

or Dadans performance on the wedding of his sister..which Im unable to describe with words… see for yourselves
