"Introduction to "Organic Farming"

Organic farming is a farming practice that focuses on growing plant and raising of animals without the use of any chemical like fertilizer, pesticides, antibiotics and others.
It relies on natural processes to produce healthy food for both plant and animals. It's a very healthy form of farming for human consumption.

In this farming practice, only natural fertilizers are used in crops, such as compost manure from animal manure and green manure from decomposed leaves or grasses.
Additionally, animals are being fed with natural feed and are allowed to roam about in some cases and no routine medications.

Pests are being managed by crop rotation practice, natural repellent and biological control. Example is using pests that are friends of farmer to get rid of harmful pests. Although this method is slow, it has big advantage to the soil, crops and our environment.

Benefits of Organic Farming

Healthy crop and aquatic life

Organic farming is has great benefits and it is centered on natural processes to maintain healthy soil and animals, which provides healthy food:

-Healthy soil: lack of chemical fertilizer and pesticides in the farm helps maintain the nutrients of the soil and preserves beneficial micro-organisms and earthworms that naturally enrich the soil. If chemicals were used, it would kill this organisms and reduce soil nutrients over time.

-Weed control: weed are also managed in a natural way. Instead of chemical sprays, manual methods of removing weeds are being used. Hoe is use in most situation, hand picking weeds can be adopted depending on what crop is planted but it's rare.

-Source for clean water: since no chemicals are being used for plating. When rain falls, there's no risk of water from rain washing the chemical into the waterways. This protects aquatic lives and safer water for consumption, like fish and drinking water.

-Healthier animals and food: Animals fed on natural food and allowed to roam about, grow strong and healthier than those rare on routine medications and processed food. This produces food products of high quality and chemical free.

My Conclusion

Organic farming does have its own challenges, such a slow yield and it requires more labor like in the case of weeding and biological control of pests. Despite these challenges, I still encourage organic farming because it protects the soil nutrients, water bodies, and in all, it gives high quality plant and animal products for consumption.
