SLC-S31/W4-"Creative Interpretation| The Object -"A Broken Clock"
Can a broken clock create a memorable, worthwhile story. Lets find out ☺️
Build a Creative Piece Inspired By a Broken Clock |
|---|
I enjoyed visiting my Grandma when I get the chance. My residence is a 1 hour, 30 minute trip to her place. This visit is different from others. Why?
I'm staying for the weekend and also there's this wall clock in Grandma's room. Though the clock no longer works but I always admire it. It's a round clock, beautifully decorated.
That day, I spotted something different about the clock; some part of the glass frame was broken. For the first time, I was move to ask Grandma about the clock. l told her I love the design.
She took me back to 1972, her husband got it for their 15th anniversary. She said the clock holds lot of memories about her late husband. The clock dropped from her hands while she was cleaning it.
The broken clock is paused at 11:42am. And though the clock appears useless, remember:
- It beautifies Grandma's room
- It tells the right time twice a day
- Keep memories of Grandma's late husband alive
Now it's me keeping the memories of her through the clock.
What Does The Broken Clock Symbolize In Your Work |
|---|
My Grandma is the broken clock.
She is very old and not really strong like she used to be. She quit farming. Even getting to her restroom which is just few steps away from her bed, is always a fight.
11:42 appears on the broken clock twice daily, though it no longer works. In the same way, Grandma, though broken by old age, but not her wisdom, still valuable where it counts. Her voice of discipline and counsel is still heard.
Is It a Story Of Loss, Hope, Regret Or Second Chances |
|---|
A few months later, Grandma died. My Dad broke the news. It breaks my heart. My Dad handed me a gift from her. It was the clock.
Now the clock hangs in my room. It tells a story of loss.
Whenever I look at it, Grandma speaks through the clock. It reminds me of her wise words of counsel and discipline, words that still shapes my life in different ways.
What Lesson Does Your Interpretation Carry? |
|---|
Memories of a loved one we lost can be our strength to carry on in life, despite it all. Through the wall clock. She still speaks
I should value the time I have with my family.
Broken objects can still be valuable. If my Grandma got rid of the broken clock, I won't have known the story behind.
My Conclusion |
|---|
Object: broken clock tells a story of time, memory and inheritance. It taught me to value my family now, draw strength from memories and never to call something useless because it's broken.
11:42 will always be right, twice daily on my wall and so was my Grandma.okere-blessing(77)

This is a beautiful entry.
Reminds us of the need to connect and build strong bonds with family. Sometimes, the only to reconnect to us is by holding unto past memories.
For your grandma, it was the clock.
For others, it could be something else.
Clocks can be broken in different ways as well. For your grandma, it was age that did the work. But it didn't reduce her worth or relevance. Because her wisdom grew with her.
I'm glad my piece was clear, thanks @ukpono I appreciate!
