SC-S33/W4-Rewrite a movie ending (Black Panther)

I do love this movie called Black Panther and it is a Marvel Studios movie, an it was release on 2018. Ryan Coogler is the director of this movie. The main actors or characters are Chadwick Boseman thats play T’Challa ( also the Black Panther), Michael B. Jordan which act as Erik Killmonger, Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, etc. This movie was really popular worldwide beginning on when it was released. It became popular because it shows African culture very well thoe fictional, with Wakanda as one of the African country that has vibranium, which is a strong metal that make them advanced.

Brief Details of the movies

The movie started after King T’Chaka dies. Therefore his son T’Challa was suppose to take over as king till he dies. In the other hand wakanda hide from the world because they didn't want other people to know that they have vibranium. T’Challa finally become king, but problems started when Erik Killmonger shows up. Killmonger is T’Challa cousin that grew up in America. His father died, every body abandon him,so he was carrying pain and anger in the chest. He was angry that Wakanda was living their life secretly while black people were suffering outside.

Killmonger believe that Wakanda suppose to use vibranium to oppressed people to make them fight back. T’Challa didn't agree, he believe that if they release weapon everywhere, the world will surely scatter. Truly that was how the fight between the two cousins begins. Killmonger win him at first, took over the throne, and begin planning to send weapons out. Later T’Challa came back, fight him again, and win. At the end, Killmonger was wound by him very serious. T’Challa said that they should save him, but Killmonger says that he prefer to die free than live like a slave in his father's land. He died as he was looking the Wakanda sunset.

Why I Don't Like the Ending

The ending was really painful and sorrowful for me. Killmonger was a person that represent real African struggle. His anger was a real one. Africa has wealth but sometimes leaders do hide it or misuse it while people will be suffering. Also many of us can surely relate to that kind of pain. But the film just kill it off like normal villain. It didn't give chance for reconciliation or healing. It just end with “hero win, villain die” as usual seen in movies. And also Hollywood style, but not a real African ways.

In my own ending ,this is how it would have goes: after the last fight, T’Challa will still win but he won't kill Killmonger. He might just disarm him or handcuffs him just to hold him down for a while. While Killmonger will be shouting and crying angrily: “You all leave and abandon me! You left all of us to suffer while hiding here with riches!” The council and crowd will be shock, even T’Challa himself will feel it.

Instead of just offering medical help, T’Challa will kneel down and tell him: “You are my blood brother. Wakanda fail you, but I won't fail you again.” He order they should take Killmonger out and heal him. No prison. And he create a new rule that says Wakanda must change , they shouldn't be hiding anymore while the world are suffering. Killmonger, even though he was angry, he still get the chance to live. He wasn't made a king, but T’Challa make him an ambassador. He travel with Nakia to help oppressed other communities too with Wakanda resources in a very peaceful way.

Then finally the movie will end with T’Challa and Killmonger together at Oakland, California, where Killmonger grew up. Then T’Challa will show him the Wakanda center that he is building there. Killmonger will then smile, realizing that he was finally relieved From his pains. The last scene will show this two cousins one from Wakanda, one from America finally celebrating and United to heal the gap between Africa and diaspora.

• Family reconciliation: Family is very important. Even if a person is being offended, elders must push for peace. If T’Challa forgive Killmonger, it will really showed African culture very well.

• Unity: Killmonger is a diaspora, T’Challa is an homeland. If they unite, it will gladly symbolize healing between Africans abroad and Africans back at home.

• Breaking Hollywood formula: Hollywood always kill villain. But in real life, it is not always to kill. Sometimes the real win is when enemy turn friends.

• Hopeful ending: Killmonger death was too sad. My ending will surely give hope which shows that even an angry person can change if you give him love and purpose.
