If a farmer want to have a good harvest and healthy products of his field he needs to make sure that the plants, vegetables, fruits receive enough water. We know that for us, human it is important to drink plenty to feel well and hydrated. The same is for fields, they have to have enough water.
You also can imagine that often there are large area of fields and it is not easy to irrigate them using a hose, it should be long enough and also someone still has to make sure that plants have not too much but also not so little of water.
There are at least four different type of irrigation system:
Surface irrigation
This is very popular and common way of irrigation and this is what we usually do to our own garden. We make sure that the surface of field is poured with water. We make sure that it received enough so that water could reach more deeper parts of soil so that they reach roots of plants.
Sprinkler irrigation
This is also something that we often use, for example for our lawn too sprinkler is almost the same like a natural rain, not only the surface of soil but also the plants and their leaves also receive enough water.
Drip irrigation
This is something that I recently found and that often is done in more hot areas, where when you do the first or second way of irrigation they it will vaporise quickly because of high temperature of air and direct sun. That is why there is an irrigation system long hoses with small pores along it, so that when water is passing through the hose it will drip out and because of the small amount of water that is better absorbed by soil and water is also prevented from vaporising.
Subsurface irrigation
This is when the whole tubular next of hose is placed under the surface of soil again there will be a small holes along the length of the tubes and that is giving water close to roots of plants. That is also dedicated to hot areas and helps to use smaller amount of water without much loss of it.
