Common Illnesses in Children and How to Prevent Them

in Steem Kids & Parents17 days ago

Children are precious, but they are fragile. They are growing and their immune system is not yet fully developed to combat different illnesses. For this reason, children are susceptible to diseases if not well cared for. I have realised that it is important for parents, caregivers and guardians to know the common illnesses in children and how to prevent them.

The common cold is a common illness in children. This is often accompanied by a runny nose, cough, sneezing and sometimes fever. Colds are very contagious and can be easily transmitted from one child to another, particularly in schools or crowded areas. I have seen that when children don't wash their hands regularly and cover their mouth when they are coughing, the cold can spread very easily. To avoid this, it is important for children to practise good hygiene, such as washing their hands with soap and water. Also, by keeping them warm and away from sick people, they may be less likely to catch a cold.

Another very common disease is malaria, particularly in areas where mosquitoes are prevalent. Malaria makes you feel sick, with a fever, headache, and feel weak, and can make you vomit. I have seen how easily a child can get very sick from malaria. It's important to prevent malaria. It's important to use mosquito nets on children and keep the environment clean to prevent mosquitoes from breeding. It's important to keep the house clean and free from stagnant water, and use mosquito repellents.

Children also suffer from diarrhea. It is when you have loose stools and can become dehydrated, which is scary. Diarrhea is usually caused by unsafe water, poor sanitation and unhygienic food. I think that hygiene and clean water is essential to prevent diarrhea. Children should never drink non-clean water (boiled or treated). Food should be cooked and hands washed before eating and after visiting the toilet.

Many children also suffer from measles. Measles is a serious infectious disease that makes your body have a fever, rash, cough and sore eyes. It is spread from one child to another by breathing the same air. I know that measles can be prevented with a vaccine. By taking children for their immunizations, we can protect them from not only measles but also many other diseases.

Young children also get ear infections. They can feel pain, have hearing loss or fever. These infections can occur after a cold. I believe it's good to keep kids clean and dry, particularly after showering. And it is good to keep dirty things out of the ears. If a child has an earache, it is best to consult a doctor.

There are also skin infections, such as rashes and fungus. They may be due to lack of hygiene, sweating or unclean clothes. I have seen that kids who play and sweat can get skin infections if they don't take a bath. Regular baths, clean clothes and dry skin are important to avoid them.

Eating a healthy diet is also important. If they don't eat properly, they become malnourished. Malnutrition can cause diseases such as anemia and even infections. I think it's important to provide children with a well-balanced diet including fruit, vegetables, protein and water. Healthy diet helps to boost the immune system.

To conclude, there are many common diseases that children can get, including cold, malaria, diarrhea, measles, ear infection and skin diseases. But most can be prevented by maintaining good hygiene, eating a healthy diet, living in a clean environment and vaccinations. I believe if we focus on children's health and take preventive steps, we can ensure that they are healthy and well. It is our love and responsibility to look after the health of a child.
