Hello to the wonderful steemians, it's a pleasure to be here and i hope your all good. There’s always a special kind of excitement that comes with starting a new portrait, especially when the subject has such a strong presence. For this piece, I chose to draw Ian Somerhalder, someone whose facial features carry both intensity and softness. For this post, I set out to draw a portrait of Ian Somerhalder, an actor whose expressive eyes and defined features make him both a challenge and a joy to recreate. Here's how I made it

Drawing items

• A4 paper

• mechanical pencils

• graphite pencil so

• charcoal pencil

• black pen

• eraser

• sharpener

Step-by-Step Process

Step 1

First I started refining the key features. I sharpened the eyes, shaped the nose, and outlined the lips. Instead of pressing hard, I gradually built up the lines.

Step 2

Next I carefully worked on the beards using my 4B pencil, and then I shaded it.

Step 3

After doing that, I then focused on the hair. Ian’s hairstyle is naturally messy yet controlled, with strands flowing in different directions. Instead of trying to draw every single strand, I focused on grouping the hair into sections.

Step 4

For the neck and shoulder, I used smooth and controlled shading. I gently applied graphite in layers, especially around the cheeks, jawline, and under the chin. I avoided pressing too hard so the tones would remain soft.

Step 5

To complete my drawing, I went over the entire drawing again, added contrast, and deepened areas where necessary. And below is my final result.

This piece reminded me that drawing is not just about skill but about connection. Each portrait teaches something new, and with this one, I learned more about patience and subtlety. Thank you for your time on my post; I really appreciate your time and support.

This portrait of yours is truly beautiful and impressive. You have masterfully captured Ian Somerhalder's facial expressions, especially the depth of the eyes and the structure of his face. His beard, layered shading of his hair and the use of light and shadow show your hard work and patience. The step-by-step method is also very clear and beneficial for learners. It is commendable that you have created such professional art from simple things. I hope you continue to share such beautiful and creative work in the future. Very well done, well done and best wishes.
