That is indeed very sad. The main problem if you are close with your animals or make pets out of them, you rather don't sell, let alone eat them.

I assume that's why many don't eat dogs and cats any longer and next the horses unless they break their legs.

I assume Eid can also be celebrated without meat?

BTW chickens make great pets as well and can recognise you, same for geese, ducks and I even kept a hamster that always woke up and waited for as I arrived back home from school.
