"SC-S31/W4-Movie Magic |Movies that challenge society (Lionheart)
Injustice truly challenges norms and culture in the society. This makes it a social issue, which creates problems for our society. It may stunt the growth and development of the society. Injustice comes in different forms: it can be economic, gender-based, ethnic group, legal, traditional and more. In this movie review, injustice is portrayed on a low, not that deep like other forms. Lets see how injustice comes in.
Movie that speaks on injustice, challenging a norm or a culture |

"Lionheart" is the movie I'm using for my review. It tells a story of Adaeze Obiagu, daughter of Ernest Obiagu. Founder, CEO and Managing director (MD) of Lionheart transport, a renowned transport company in the Eastern part of Nigeria. Eventually, her father had an heart attack which makes him mandatorily not active and runs the business like he used to.

Due to his health, he needs to appoint an acting CEO to run and manage the daily needs in his place. Adaeze was disappointed by his father's decision of appointing her uncle, God'swill Obiagu to act in his place until he fully recovered. Though God'swill is a good man but his experience in the company can't be measured to that of Adaeze, being the one working side by side with her father for over 7 years.

Aside the CEO's health. Lionheart transport is in debt of over 950 million naira from different financial institutions. Another challenge to face. Now the company's fate is rest assured by the CEO in the hands of Adaeze, the Director of transport and logistics and God'swill, the acting MD.

Tension rises as Samuel, Director of Engineering department propose deal to sell the company at 3 billion to a wealthy business man, Igwe Pascal. Adaeze and her uncle are in shocked when they heard about it. On the other hand, Adaeze is fighting for the banks and investors of Lionheart to give them time, but their time to repay that huge amount is not enough, only 30 days.
About the company's investors, the buy the idea of the business man purchasing Lionheart. The frown on Adaeze's leadership because she is a woman. With that, the gave Adaeze only 10 days after 20 days gone, given by the bank.

In the end, Adaeze was able to secure a partnership of merging Lionheart with a pretigious transport company in the North, Maikano Motors. This merging will maintain her father's legacy and the business, instead of selling the company off. After the deal was sealed, the CEO announce to retire and he publicly acknowledge her daughter's leadership by appointing her the CEO and MD of Lionheart.
What social issue did the movie highlight? |
|---|
It shows gender discrimination. First, it came from Samuel, the director of engineering department. He envies Adaeze actions of being and her role in the growth and running of Lionheart. Samuel never loved her presentations, ideas and how she handles issues simply because she is a woman.
Investors too looked down Adaeze. Maybe they thought; if Lionheart is falling under a man, then, is it a woman that will revive it? They never gave Adaeze the chance to present her plans towards clearing the debt and revive the company.
Did it change how you see this issue? |
|---|
Actually, after watching the movie, nothing really changed in how I see gender discrimination. Gender shouldn't be used to determine someone's performance in the society. Skills are naturally possessed by all, not based on gender.
How is this theme discussed this week relevant today? |
|---|
We live in a society where gender discrimination and other forms of injustice are encouraged, it gets to you directly or indirectly. Though you may not be targeted directly, pervasively you could be affected in one way or another.
For example, in some cultures, daughters are not included in having a share of their father's inheritance; with the mind that she will be married off someday.
When injustice is out of hand and not addressed, it weakens the growth and development of the society even opportunities can be overlooked.
Injustice incites conflict, which leads to protest or social division. Making the society an uncomfortable place to live if it is intense or persists.
"This is why I think this week's theme on injustice is really relevant because it gets worse with time."

Welcome to Steemit challenge season 31| movie Magic week4
Yes I have seen this movie! Gender description should not be heard of in our society today but it's shocking to see it.
Always bear in mind that in a movie review there are vital details needed about the movie like year of production, name of producer, names of the lead actors and many more. This could have added to your score .
I didn't know I needed to include that, but now noted. I'll do better next time, thanks @ruthjoe

Hola ab-rich23!
Realmente por el escrito ha despertado mis ganas de ver está película donde puedo ver la injusticia desde un punto de vista, pero creo que hay un porque de la dicha decisión.
Gracias por la invitación.
Éxito.
Muchas Bendiciones.. 🙏🏻
Gracias @pandora2010
Lo aprecios! 🤗
Ouch, that's sad. Pushing aside his daughter despite her experience.
But I'd like to add a point here:
I don't think there is anyone who "encourages" gender discrimination and injustice. What we have is a society that's either ignorant of its ability or individuals who are yet to find strength in themselves.
I say ignorant because some individuals live the lives their parents and ancestors lived without pausing to wonder if they could reform it into something better.
Some victims are scared to speak up or challenge the practices and mindsets that hurt them because they are yet to find strength in themselves.
Society doesn't "encourage" these things per day. We just need more people who are willing to move beyond what was presented to them as perfect.
Once these internal factors are conquered, other external, systemic factors like institutional policies and cultural practices will conform as well.
I really appreciate your review, thanks for going through my writing thanks!
