Steem4nigeria Accelerator Contest Week135: What I Will Never Do For Money
Money is a very important aspect of human life as it allows us to fulfil our basic needs and obligations. Money helps us buy food, pay for housing, buy clothes, travel, pay for education and health care, and many other things. Life can be challenging without money. That's why a lot of people work to make an income and support themselves and their families. I see money as a means of subsistence and living a comfortable life, but not as a principal value in life. I believe that we should not be slaves to money.
There are many people who say "I can do anything for money". This quote reflects the desperation some people can feel due to financial stress. Being poor, being jobless, having a family and unexpected difficulties can lead people to do risky things. People sometimes go against their morals because of desperation. But I also believe that there should be limits. I will not do everything to earn money, no matter how desperate I am.
I will never steal for money. It's not right to take something that is not mine, whether it is a little or a lot. It breaks people's trust and makes them sad. I always think, "If I do not want someone to steal from me, I should not steal from others". Even if I have trouble in life, I will not take other people's things to live a comfortable life.
The other thing I will never do for money is to deceive others. In this modern world, many people scam others for money. They trick others on the internet, promise something that they do not deliver, or create fake personas in order to scam money from people who earned it. I can never be proud of money that is earned through others' tears. The money is probably sweet, but it tastes bitter, shameful, and at times, devastating.
I also will never break someone's trust for money. Trust is precious and once broken, hard to regain. Trust is the foundation of friendship, family and even business. If someone confides in me or trusts me with their wealth or assistance, I should not make money from this. I would rather be poor than rich at the expense of others. Good name is rather be chosen than great riches.
I also know I will never exchange my dignity and values for material gain. Sometimes people feel pressured to do something that they regret later. Sometimes people are pressured to think that being alive is what counts, but I think it's important to have character as well. One can lose and win money, but once you lose dignity, it can be painful for a long time. I want to live with dignity and fulfilment.
I have also been tempted to use money to do unsound things in life. Once I was desperate for money and someone offered me a crooked way. It seemed a simple way to get it and at that moment I was tempted because I was desperate. I imagined all the things I had to do and how it would have helped. But I knew it was not right. Would I be happy with that decision in the future? The answer was no. I decided to leave, although it was painful.
I learned that desperation can lead us in the wrong direction if we do not have a strong sense of values. It's easy to judge until you are in that situation. So I try to be slow when judging others, but I also know that all actions have consequences. Easy money can ruin a life. I prefer to be honest, even if poor, than a liar, even if rich.
I know why I don't do some things for money: because I don't want to lose my peace of mind. I want to be able to sleep at night. I want to be loved for being good, not feared for being bad. I also believe that "whatever you do, comes back to you". If we cause pain for the sake of money, it might come back to us. But if we live honestly, even when times are tough, we will be stronger.
My message to the readers is that money is valuable, but not the most valuable. Don't let short-term money problems create long-term regrets. Be patient, work hard, and it will all come to you. Clean money may be slow, but it is peaceful, dignified and fulfilling. Greasy money may come quickly, but it also brings fear, guilt and severed ties.
In short, I have many things that I will not do for money because good character is more important than money. I will not steal, scam, betray or compromise my integrity to get by. Life may be tough sometimes, but I think good character is precious. I can have money, but I can never have a clear conscience. I would rather live an honest life than a successful one. My integrity is worth more to me than money.
