The title of the movie that I watched is S Saraswathi, it was produced in 2026. The movie speaks about injustice. Lakshmi is a nurse who works in a government hospital. She has a daughter called Saraswathi. Lakshmi drops her daughter at school, and that day is for Indian independence celebration, as well as Saraswathi's birthday celebration. Lakshmi arrived at her daughter's school in the evening to pick her up, but unfortunately, the school teachers said that there is no one called Saraswathi, but there is one Saraswathi in class 7B, which is not her daughter.

The police officer was called to the matter, but there is no evidence showing that her daughter attended the school. Lakshmi reported back to the police station to inform them that her daughter was abused by the principal and two other men, which led to her daughter's death. She buried her daughter in a cemetery. When the police reached the place, there was no evidence, and they could not continue with the case.

This is when her daughter was rape by three men

Lakshmi hired a lawyer, Ramajaum, without any evidence, the lawyer accept it from because he believe her. As time went on, Lakshmi killed the three men who raped Saraswathi because justice failed her. Lakshmi informed the police that she killed them, and judge told her lawyer to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter while Lakshmi was remanded in prison. His lawyer contacted her husband, Aditya, who told Ramajaum that they do not have any daughters and that they have gone their separate ways. He also said Lakshmi cannot have children.

When the movie was about to end, I discovered that Saraswathi is actually Lakshmi's daughter. But she was the one who experienced the incident of abuse. The lawyer pleaded with the court to reduce her sentence because she suffered from a fantasy disorder. Later, all their secrets were revealed — she had planned the entire thing with her husband.

What social issue did the movie highlight?

Saraswathi receiving treatment in the hospital as a result of sexual abuse

The movie addresses the issue of child abuse, which is very rampant against children in our society. Because many children in school and in the house experience this to a great extent, some of them may not even have their own children again or speak up due to the fear imbued in their minds. This is the case of Saraswathi. Another thing is that the movie highlights Saraswathi's struggle for justice, where the institutions as well as law enforcement agencies failed to protect her as a victim of sexual assault. This shows that injustice happened to her despite knowing the truth.

Revenge in these cases is not always effective; it may be negative or positive sometimes. So, she seeks justice in her own hands when the legal system failed her, and that's how things work out in her own interest.

Did it change how you see this issue?

When the lawyer stand for her in the court of law

Yes, it changes my view because the movie expresses the motherly love where a mother stands for her daughter in order to fight for justice so that all her struggles should not go in vain.

Children need to be protected with care because they can become anything in the future. Legal system need to work hand in hand with stakeholders, so that the voice of children especially girl child who experience sexual abuse must be heard and the perpetrator who involves in the crime must be jailed with no mercy.

Another things is that if we have many trustworthy lawyer not the corrupt one. Our judiciary system will be effective in maintaining social justice.

How is this theme discussed this week relevant today?

When she was ask to leave the school premises

This theme is relevant to what is happening in our society because it address the issue of child abuse, in fact it must not be something we must view as minor thing. People do not take this issue seriously because they consider it as an allegations in tarnished other people image.

Something happened to one of the actor in Yoruba movie industry where he sexual assault young child with the help of cctv that recorded everything. This is not the movie, it's real life event.

The members of the community take the issue seriously once they have the evidence to support their backing and they use it against him in the court of law. It's a relevant issues that must be treated so that such menace can be reduced in the society.

The second post I'm reading about a crime done against a person. Sad to see that this is a universal experience.

I believe the best justice here will be to raise individuals to understand the limits to what they can do. It isn't enough to enact laws. But while the law punishes offenders, young children should be taught never to see violence as a lifestyle.

Don't know if there is a systemic issue that contributes to this. Poverty, mental illness or something. Because I'm still trying to think why an individual would decide to treat another person violently, thereby leading to the victim leaving with an eternal trauma.

Thanks for your comment my dear sister. The world need to react to this where justice will be serve accordingly. Those young children who are sexually abuse must received treatment and rehabilitation must also compulsory in order to reintegrate them back in to the society.

You've raised salient points.
And I'd like to add that there's a need for society to be proactive, not reactive.

No child should be allowed to experience this. Which is why they need to destroy the root cause first and inculcate the right values in children.

These acts are perpetuated by humans. If we want a safer society, one has to eliminate the predators first, not the prey.

We need to understand what's enabling these behaviours. Then chip off whatever encourages it.

Is it that children are raised with lesser values? Are they victims of abuse or oppression themselves? Are there psychos? Is there a scientific reason to explain why of all behaviours they could exhibit, the perpetuators chose to exhibit this one?

There's nobody who fully heals from abuse. In all my experiences, I see that they either project that fear to their children or make lives miserable for others. So rehab and integration has its limits.

The only solution to this for society to be structured in a way that these abusive acts never ever get the chance the see the light of day.

The matter of child abuse is very serious. I totally agree that children needs to be protected with care. Good movie selection!

You have given a good interpretation of the movie too.
