Greetings Steemit family! 👋

Living in Agbor as a student, there are certain places that become part of your everyday life. One of such places is the College Junction road. It is not just a road. It is a place where students pass every day to go to school, enter vehicles, buy things from the market and carry out normal daily activities.

The College Junction to Agbor Central Hospital corridor is one of the busiest roads in Agbor. It connects different residential areas and commercial centres, so from morning till evening you will always see movement there.

Recently, this familiar road became the centre of a tragedy that shook many of us.

The Day Fear Became More Real

To be honest, I am someone who hardly goes outside unless I have a reason to. But even during those few moments I step out, there is always a little thought at the back of my mind saying, "I hope nothing happens to me today."

The atmosphere around students in Agbor has become one of fear and uncertainty. We have had disturbing stories of cult-related violence around university environments, and there have been moments where information circulated among students warning everyone to stay indoors for their own safety.

Then came the tragic accident along the College Junction road. A heavy truck reportedly suffered brake failure and lost control. Within seconds, a normal day turned into a nightmare as innocent people going about their businesses became victims.

The videos that circulated online were heartbreaking. Seeing the destruction and imagining the pain those families are going through is something that is difficult to forget.

This tragedy became even more personal for me when I discovered that my landlady's son was among the victims who lost their lives. The cries in my compound after the news broke were something I cannot describe. It was a painful reminder that these tragedies are not just stories on the news. They are affecting people we know.

The Bigger Problem Beyond The Headlines

What worries me the most is how fear is slowly becoming part of our daily lives. Students now think about their safety when going for lectures. Parents worry when their children leave the house. Ordinary citizens become afraid of using roads they have used for years.

The problem is not only about accidents or cult clashes. It is about the feeling of insecurity that grows when people no longer feel safe in their own communities.

Every society has challenges, but when tragedies happen repeatedly, they leave emotional scars on the people living there. A community cannot truly develop when fear becomes the companion of its residents.

My Perspective As A Criminology Student

Studying Criminology and Security Studies has made me understand that security is not only the absence of crime. It is also the presence of safety, confidence and trust within a society.

Issues like cult violence require proper law enforcement, intelligence gathering, youth engagement and addressing the social factors that push young people into criminal groups. Road accidents also remind us of the importance of proper vehicle maintenance, strict traffic enforcement and responsible driving.

Government agencies have their responsibilities, but citizens also have a role to play by obeying safety rules, reporting suspicious activities and promoting peace within their communities.

Final Thoughts

As I write this, I still pass through these places and I still hear conversations filled with fear. It is painful that many young people today have to think about surviving situations that should never happen in the first place.

I sincerely hope Agbor returns to being a place where students can focus on their education, traders can carry out their businesses and families can live without constantly worrying about the next tragedy.

Have you ever experienced a moment when a place you considered normal suddenly became associated with fear or tragedy? How did it change the way you see your environment?
