Steem4nigeria Accelerator Contest Week135: What I Will Never Do For Money.
1 • Briefly share with us what you understand by Money.
The subject of money, often dismissed solely as a medium of exchange, actually represents the engine of modern life and the most important symbol of our freedom. For me, money symbolizes energy in reserve and potential. It represents an entity that provides for our futures, fosters our creativities and supports the well being of those whom we love if managed properly. At the same time, it symbolizes the moral integrity of its holder as it possesses no moral integrity itself, but will instead be used as an extension of the person who owns it.
2 • Are there a things you would never do to gain money no matter what the circumstances?
Though life can be hard sometimes, and pressure may be mounting when the bills are due and money seems to be everywhere else but where I need it most, some lines will forever remain unbroken. I will never resort to dishonesty, cheating or actions which directly cause the suffering of others; more specifically, I will never sell my character for money by engaging in anything that appears like a "get-rich-quick" opportunity that exploits the trusting or involves some illegal behavior, for not even the most precious dollar bills on earth can compensate for a guilty conscience or damaged reputation. There is no real "win" that is procured at another person's loss, only an everlasting soul debt.
3 • Have you ever been tempted or lured into the things you vowed never to do just to acquire money?Share your experience with us.
It would be dishonest for me to pretend the way of integrity always feels clear and well-trod. There have certainly been times when an opportunity has called itself "quick money." One instance comes to mind regarding an "investment opportunity" which was so "brilliant" that it was guaranteed to deliver massive returns on very little labor, yet required that I invite other people to join a venture that held little actual value, a pyramid scheme essentially.
The pressure was intense; I was confronted with "successes" that were visibly around me, felt that familiar panic bubbling inside of me that would gladly sacrifice my convictions one single time in exchange for some peace of mind from immediate hardship, but I was able to stop long enough to consider the true price of the money in question and say no.
4 • Why have you chosen not to cross certain line because of money? Use your point as a strong advice to your readers.
I choose not to cross these lines because true affluence is measured in peace. If you sacrifice your sleep, your health, and your integrity to fill your coffers, you have made a devastating mistake. Money ebbs and flows-it can be gained, lost, and regained-but your name and your serenity are far more precious.
My advice to everyone reading this is simple: Determine your "Price of Peace" before you are ever tested. Do not wait for a crisis to clarify your values. If you compromise your morals for a paycheck today, you will find that no amount of money will ever be enough to repurchase the person you once were. Build slowly, build with integrity, and remember that a clear conscience is the greatest luxury that money can never purchase.
