Pick a movie with an ending you don't like?

I chose The Mist (2007). The movie is full of mystery, fear, and suspense from beginning to end. Every moment of the story keeps the viewer waiting for the next event. I also liked the acting, the atmosphere, and the presentation of the story. But I did not like the ending of the movie at all.

The most painful thing is that the main character(Thomas Jane) loses hope at the last moment and makes a decision that later turns out to be completely unnecessary. If I had waited a few minutes, the rescue team would have reached there. I found this incident very tragic and disappointing. After so much struggle to survive throughout the movie, such an ending hurt me mentally.

In my opinion, people should keep hope till the end even in difficult situations. The ending of this movie creates a feeling opposite to that hope. So no matter how strong the story is, I did not like this tragic turn of events at the end. I was sad for a long time after watching the movie. This is why The Mist is a movie whose ending I do not like, and I think it could have been more satisfying if it had ended differently.

Rewrite the ending in your own terms?

If I were to rewrite the ending of The Mist (2007), I would convey a message of hope and courage in the story. At the last moment, David and his companions would not give up even when the car ran out of fuel. They would get out of the car and take shelter in a nearby safe building and continue to try to survive together.

After some time, the army rescue team would arrive from afar and start destroying the monsters inside the fog. Then David, his son, and everyone else would be rescued safely. After being rescued, they would share their difficult life experiences with others and encourage everyone to be prepared to face such disasters in the future.

In my opinion, this ending would have maintained the thrill and emotion of the story and also given a positive message. The audience would understand that no matter how difficult the situation gets, one should not lose hope until the very last moment. So I think such an ending for The Mist would have been more meaningful, inspiring, and would have left a good feeling in the audience’s mind for a long time.

Explain why you think your own ending fits in better?

The ending I wrote seems more fitting, as it honors the characters' struggle to survive throughout the story. It also clearly conveys the message of not losing hope until the very end. Even in real life, patience and courage often lead to success in difficult situations. So a positive ending will inspire the audience without disappointing them. At the same time, the thrill and emotion of the movie will be maintained, and the triumph of humanity and the power of hope will be revealed more beautifully.
