We do a lot of things for entertainment. In my opinion, films are not just a medium of entertainment; they also reflect our society, culture, and human psychology. On the occasion of this contest, I am participating in the wonderful Steem4Nigeria community contest and discussing a masterpiece film from Bangladesh, Hawa. So, let's get started!

Hawa The story of this movie revolves around a wooden trawler 'Urpankhi' floating in the deep sea. A group of fishermen are accustomed to their daily life of fishing, but suddenly, one day, instead of fish, a mysterious young woman is caught in their net.
The girl does not say a word, but after her arrival, strange and miraculous events start happening in the trawler one after another. Amidst the running out of food and the hostile nature, the primitive instincts, greed, and dark sides of the trawler's captain and the crew start to come out. It is basically a perfect blend of folk myth and metaphor of the depths of human beings.

How this movie challenges society

I think Hawa movie is not just a thriller; it points the finger at some deep problems of society. According to this movie, I have mentioned some things below:

Patriarchal mentality: The trawler was basically a miniature form of a patriarchal society. I think the behaviour of the fishermen towards the mysterious girl challenges our society's misogyny or narrow mentality of seeing women as 'commodities' or 'evil.'

Greed for power: This movie shows the conflict between the main 'Chan Majhi' of the trawler and the rest. How can power and greed destroy a well-organized society?

Superstition and Responsibility: In rural society, people always want to blame their moral lapses on 'invisible forces' or 'evil winds.' The movie shows that the real 'monster' is not outside, but inside the mind of the people.

My favourite character, and why is it my favorite?

My favourite character in this movie is Chan Majhi, role played by the legendary actor Chanchal Chowdhury. I like almost every movie starring Chanchal Chowdhury. In my opinion, movies like Manpura and Ayanabaji are still quite popular with the audience.

Why is it favorite?

The character of Chan Majhi is very complex and grey. He is authoritarian, strict, and, at the same time, extremely selfish. Chanchal Chowdhury's performance was so alive that the salty water of the sea and the cries of the fisherman hit the audience. He represents an arrogant man who thinks he can control nature and fate, but in the end, he is helpless to nature.

Lessons learned from the movie

The movie Hawa teaches us several profound life lessons:
Karmaphal Inevitable: The movie has a shade of the Manasamangal poem. It reminds us that people's past crimes or cruelty come back in one way or another.

Respect for nature: Even if people consider themselves the masters of the world, nature is the last word. If we ignore nature, its revenge can be terrible.

The enemy within: The lack of compassion and cruelty within people is more dangerous to society than the mysteries or ghosts outside.

I have mentioned below how much a ticket costs to go to the popular cineplex in Dhaka, Bangladesh - Bashundhara City Shopping Mall, Dhaka and the ticket price:

Ticket PricePrice in BDT (Bangladeshi Taka)Price in Steem
Premium seat400 Taka58.30 Steem
Semi Recliner seat500 Taka72.88 Steem

Bangladesh is now trying to make good-quality movies, but sometimes it is not possible due to the budget. Basically, 'Hawa' has taken the standards of Bangladeshi films a step forward in the world court in terms of cinematography and storytelling. It questions our conventional thinking. Those who have not seen this movie yet, please watch it. Watching movies has become very easy now, with OTT platforms allowing you to watch movies of your choice by paying a certain subscription fee. I tried to highlight everything about this movie according to the contest.
