Soba, A Beautiful Transformation from an Abandoned House into an Esthetic Cafe
On my recent visit to Banda Aceh, I had the opportunity to spend the evening at Soba Coffee, one of the cafés that has recently become popular among local residents and young people.
Interestingly, the name "Soba" comes from the Acehnese language, which means "Who brought it?" It is a unique and memorable name that reflects a touch of local culture while giving the cafe its own identity.

What makes Soba even more interesting is its history. According to local stories, this place was once an abandoned house that had been left unattended for years. Instead of letting the building remain empty, the owners transformed it into a modern cafe with a beautiful design. Today, it has become one of the most attractive places to relax, meet friends, or simply enjoy a cup of coffee in Banda Aceh.
As soon as I entered the cafe, I was impressed by its spacious outdoor courtyard. The combination of green lawns, palm trees, decorative lighting, and minimalist architecture creates a calm and refreshing atmosphere. Although the cafe was quite busy, it still felt comfortable because the seating areas were arranged neatly with enough space between tables.
Inside, the cafe continues the same minimalist concept with clean interiors and warm lighting. The overall design successfully combines the charm of the old building with modern cafe aesthetics, making every corner look attractive for photography. It's no surprise that many visitors enjoy taking pictures while spending time here.

Soba offers a variety of beverages, including espresso-based coffee, iced coffee, tea, chocolate drinks, fresh juices, and other refreshing options. The cafe also serves light meals and snacks, making it a suitable place for breakfast, afternoon coffee, or evening gatherings with family and friends.
The parking area is another advantage. There is plenty of space for motorcycles and several cars, making it convenient for guests arriving with their own vehicles. The staff were also friendly and welcoming, creating a pleasant experience from the moment we arrived.
Overall, I truly enjoyed my visit to Soba. The successful transformation of an abandoned house into such an elegant and lively cafe is inspiring. With its relaxing atmosphere, beautiful landscaping, spacious seating, and warm hospitality, Soba has become one of the cafes I would happily recommend to anyone visiting Banda Aceh.
