I wonder how long gold will continue to represent money, especially if cash ceases to exist. But even if that is the case, the question remains as to who would be willing to give you money in exchange for gold in times of need. You might be able to trade jewellery for money at a pawnbroker’s for a while and buy food there, but you won’t be able to buy food with it in your average supermarket, and there won’t be many banks that will accept your gold, certainly not if it’s in jewellery or something else in exchange for the mortgage or loan on your home. For me, a real emergency is in times of war, and so the question is who will still have money or the means to accept your gold and exchange it for what you need. It all sounds nice, but I don’t think it will be of any use to us in the future, and that in times of need, having actual goods will help you more than having gold. Let’s just say that despite history having proven this, I hope I’m wrong.
