My Monthly Visit for My Parents and Myself
Being a caregiver for aging parents is always a challenge, but by the grace of God, we are in a country where it still takes care of the senior citizens of the country.
My parents have 4 different government hospitals to look after them; but this is hospital is the most regularly visited where I need to visit it every month for medicine for my dad's glaucoma's situation, but every 6 months my mom is required to attend the follow-up appointment for her weakening cornea
And it is none other than Hospital Sungai Buloh
One of my "favourite" hospitals because it looks like a futuristic spaceship design. haha...
Every single month I will need to visit this dispensary until the next appointment because both my parents need eye medications that is too expensive to be acquired monthly from the usual walk-in private pharmacy; moreover with other medical bills, mortgage and other financial obligations to keep them staying as comfortable as possible in their 80s, this is truly a blessing in disguise.
This is a place you cannot walk in to acquire medication unless you are already an outpatient for the hospital. Patients of other hospitals are not allowed to use this facility as well.
Moreover, it now has specific time allocated for recurring medicine acquiring, such as early in the morning at 7:30am - 9am or 4pm - 5pm onwards, while the rest of the time is allocated to outpatient / warded patients of the day.
The best part about going to the hospital first thing in the morning of after the "peak" hours (9am-3pm), there are less traffic. Otherwise, you can queue for as far as 50m-100m just to get a number for your appointment.
This hospital actually has approximately 300-600 outpatients to attend a day
Therefore the manager of the hospital actually works very diligently improving the flow from registration to dispensary of medication. Every 6 months when my parents return for follow-ups, the system changed.
I have been very blessed and grateful that many times when my mom needed emergency attention when her cornea flares up even the slightest infection, they are there.
My dad actually almost died last year (unfortunately due to a procedure done in this same hospital by new doctors) their diligence to make sure they did their best helped pull him back from the edge of death.
I personally also believed that it wasn't my dad's time yet...
Overall, other than the Emergency Room (depending which time of the year), this hospital provides top-notch care to patients., and there are more and more private medical colleges starting to work closely with this hospital because there are so many real-time cases where the medical students will get to learn.
Very much love and appreciate the nurses there. They are the best!
Until then, stay healthy and happy!
