SLC-S33/W3 | Beyond the Map : Then & Now
Assalamu Alaikum I Hope everyone is well. Today I am participating in the SLC-S33/W3 | Beyond the Map : Then & Now challenge organized by Story On Steem Community. I liked the topic of this week's challenge quite a bit. Because there are many places around us that we have been seeing since childhood. Many things about those places have changed over time. Some places have received a touch of modernity, some places have been newly decorated, and some places are moving forward with time while retaining their old identity. To participate in this challenge, I am sharing my recent travel experience. I was accompanied by a friend of mine on this trip. We both traveled from Badarganj to Rangpur by train. My friend came to Rangpur for a work assignment in her college. And I came with her to buy some books for myself. So in today's article, I will present the story of Then & Now that I saw on the way from Rangpur Railway Station to Lalbagh area in the light of my personal experience.
Where is this place located, how can visitors reach it, and when did you visit it?
The place I visited is located near the Rangpur Railway Station and Lalbagh area of Rangpur city, Bangladesh. I went to Rangpur by train from Badarganj with a friend of mine. After reaching Rangpur Railway Station by train, we left the station and walked along the railway line towards Lalbagh intersection. The path from the railway station to Lalbagh area was quite easy for us and within about two minutes of walking, we reached near Lalbagh intersection. Visitors can come to Lalbagh from different areas of Rangpur city by bus, auto rickshaw, rickshaw or other local vehicles. And it is possible to easily reach this area from Rangpur by train from different parts of the country and from the railway station by local vehicles. I visited this place on 27/07/2026.

What is the history of this place, and why is it important to your town or city?
Rangpur Railway Station and Lalbagh area have long been associated with the communication and urban life of Rangpur city. The railway station has been serving as an important means of transportation for the people of Rangpur. On the other hand, Lalbagh area is currently a familiar and busy city center, where regular movement of people, business and commerce and daily activities are seen. For me, the importance of this place is not limited to its current busyness. Rather, this area is associated with numerous memories of the transportation, business, education and personal lives of the people of Rangpur. I saw the railway station when I came to Rangpur with my mother as a child. So I also have many old memories associated with the place. Despite the changes of time, these places have maintained their position as an important part of the life of Rangpur city.

How has this place changed over the years, or what evidence of its past can still be seen today?
The railway station and its surroundings that I saw when I came to Rangpur with my mother as a child seem to me to have changed a lot from the present. Over time, the railway tracks, platforms and surroundings show signs of development. Nowadays, the railway lines are more organized and decorated with new stones. The station environment is also changing compared to before. Similarly, as you move from the relatively quiet environment of the railway station towards Lalbagh, the hustle and bustle of modern city life becomes clear. New buildings, shops, electrical infrastructure, busy roads and various vehicles stand next to the old buildings. All in all, a beautiful combination of the past and the present can be seen here. The railway lines and old structures retain the memories of the past, while the improved communication system and new constructions bear the mark of the changes of the present time.

What can visitors experience or learn by visiting this place today?
Nowadays, visitors to this area can see different aspects of Rangpur's rail connectivity, educational institutions and busy city life at the same time. When you go to Rangpur Railway Station, you can enjoy the train traffic, railway lines, platforms and the busyness of passengers. Again, if you move towards Lalbagh intersection, you can see shops, business establishments, various vehicles and the busy life of people. If you move in front of Lalbagh intersection, you can also see the side of the traditional Carmichael College. Which is significantly linked to the educational and cultural environment of Rangpur. As a result, it is possible to witness diverse images of rail connectivity, business, commerce, education and people's daily life within a small area. The most interesting thing for me was to see such changes in the environment within a very short distance. A visitor can understand from here how the old communication system, education and tradition of a city are moving forward with modern city life over time. Besides, seeing the memories of the past and the changes in the present with your own eyes, there is an opportunity to think anew about the history, current situation and future prospects of an area.

Why do you think this place should be preserved and remembered for future generations?
I think that Rangpur Railway Station, the railway line and the important places around it are silent witnesses to the past and present changes in our area. The environment that I saw when I came to Rangpur with my mother as a child, I have seen many new changes when I came there again over time. Innumerable memories of people's travel, education, business and daily life are associated with this trend of change. Therefore, along with modern development, it is necessary to preserve the traditions and identity of old places with care. Future generations will be able to see these places and know how the life of an area has gradually changed to its current position. To me, these places are not just bricks and stones, railway lines or roads. I consider them as a living part of our memories, history and the changes of time.
