SLC-S33/W2 | Beyond the Map : Hidden Beyond the Map
The place I have shared in this challenge is a hidden gem in my community, which is a peaceful natural wetland that is surrounded by lush vegetation and tall palm trees. It is not a famous tourist place, but at least having such a place in my community, it is supposed to be known by people.
Where is this place located, how can visitors reach it, and when did you visit it?
This is a beautiful and hidden place in my community that is located in Akwanga, precisely behind the Ola Hospital. Akwanga is in Nasarawa State, and this place can be reached by road, followed by a short walk through the rural path in my community that leads directly to the wetland surrounding palm trees.
As a Steemit writer and someone that love viewing nature, I visited this place early last week during the rainy season, when the vegetation in the place was at its greenest, and the small stream in the place was naturally flowing.
Why do you think this place remains hidden or overlooked despite its value?
This place has never been developed, which is the reason why I believe it is overlooked. Had it been the place has been developed as a tourist attraction, it would have remained hidden bu, bu but it hasn't been developed.
Also, another reason why I think this place remains hidden is that there are no advertisements, signboards, or social media promotions introducing people to the place. Most people, especially visitors, only pass nearby without them knowing that such a peaceful natural wetland exists a distance away from the road they usually pass through.
What makes this place unique compared to other places in your area?
What makes this place unique compared to other places in my area is the combination of the natural stream, thick green grasses, and the mature palm trees in the place that all create a peaceful landscape that is rarely found elsewhere in my area.
Also, the place remains largely untouched by modern development, allowing visitors in my area to enjoy nature in its original form. The place is the best location for bird watching, quiet relaxation and nature photography in my area.
What can visitors experience, discover, or learn by visiting this place?
Visitors who visit this place can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the place, listen to the sounds of insects and birds, appreciate the importance of wetlands in conserving water, and also learn about the role of palm trees in the local economy of my area.
The place also offers visitors the opportunity for photography, picnics, and environmental education about preserving natural ecosystems in the place and beyond.
