The never say die plant of West Africa

Most of the weeds will bend and even get destroyed when you mess with them a little but this is the most stubborn, resilient never say die weeds in Africa, called the Goosegrass. It's also the most common to get here.

You can step on goosegrass, drive on it and even pack the soil to the point that nothing else will grow there. It will stubbornly refuse to quit growing. It truly never quits in the first place. With very bad soil there's still a chance you'll get this grass growing.

It has a nickname, they also call it the wiregrass, that's not a poetic thing because it is an accurate description. It set up with tensor style fibers. It is actually very tough. If you try to pull one you can feel the difference. It's almost like it intentionally holds the ground. You can imagine how strong the roots must be attached to the soil.

Perhaps goosegrass' success is what we overlook. We just clear the land without actually acknowledging how many times we had to deal with this grass and it's still growing. No support for it, we are active trying to end it's species on the soil so proper crops can be grown and it's still a problem.

A lot of plants are struggle in the very same compacted soil the goosegrass thrives in.

This is an intentional survival mechanism by mother nature Most life on this planet needs the right conditions, decent soil, some space to grow and a fair chance at life. Goosegrass needs none of that. It is most comfortable in the most trafficked and damaged spots. And there is where goosegrass will steadily grow.

The most interesting thing is that the surface level of the plant is not where the real strength is, it's the structure underneath. Years upon years of growing a underground stem system that has been the sole survivor as everything around it has been removed.

In the seasons when the ground is barren of plants, the surrounding community of plants that thrived in rich and humid soil was gone. But when the good seasons arrive, the Goosegrass, will once again be present.
