The Diary Game: Celebrating myself on my birthday with okra soup prepared by me. 31-07-2026
Today is my birthday and I decided to celebrate me, by me, and for me. No big party, No waiting on anyone. Just me, my kitchen, and the food that makes my heart happy. There’s a special kind of joy in cooking for yourself. It feels like self-love in action. So early this morning I went to the market. I picked fresh okra, pepper, onions, chicken and green vegetables. I wanted everything to be fresh because today deserves that kind of care.
Cooking became my therapy. I sat down and started chopping. Onions first, then pepper, then the vegetables. I sliced the okra carefully until it could draw properly. The kitchen started smelling like home. That smell alone made me smile and remember all the birthdays I spent with family gathered around food. I boiled the meat and fish to go inside the soup because birthday soup must be rich. I moulded smooth hot garri on the side, the way I like it, no lumps. When I finally served myself that first bowl, it hit different. Hot okra soup, soft garri, and gratitude. I made this with my own hands for myself. That’s powerful. This is me choosing joy. This is me choosing to celebrate the small wins and the big growth.

Chopping and prepping, birthday kitchen vibes
Birthdays don’t always have to be loud. Sometimes the best celebration is quiet. It’s sitting at your table, eating good food you cooked, and thanking God for life, health, and another chance to grow. I’m grateful for 365 more days of lessons. Grateful for my hands that can create, whether it’s hair, shoes, carpentry, or a pot of soup. Grateful for my father who taught me that being creative and fixing things is a gift. Here’s to me. To more years. To more learning. To more bowls of okra soup and more reasons to smile.

Much appreciated, I'm really grateful
