"SLC31-W3" // "The Gastronomic Sweet Route" - Traditional Sweet Shop .
As I got to the place I was fortunate to enter the section of the place because I was sent directly to the place by my madam which I saw how traditional sweets are being made.
In Nigeria local traditional sweets are; coconut candy, kuli-kuli, Donkwa, and others but in a classic restaurant there are made in a more advanced way that is very appealing which you might not know if it's a traditional sweet or not
If you had the opportunity to share a traditional sweet from this shop or street stall with a Steemian friend, what would the sweet be?
If I had the opportunity to share a traditional sweet from this shop with a fellow steemian friend, I would gladly choose kuli-kuli. In a street stall kuli-kuli looks different from a modern shop which is shown below.
However, it is a crunchy snack in Nigeria that is made from groundnuts it is so rich in flavor and it is affordable. Its taste is nutty and it can be enjoyed with garri or on its own. It is a representation of local Nigerian street food with simplicity.
✓ Describe the three most traditional sweets in your town.
In my town, the most traditional are:
![]() | ![]() |
|---|
Kuli-kuli which is a deep-fried groundnut crispy, snack, slightly salty, and sweet. It is loved by almost everyone and is sold in large quantities by street vendors in a restaurant it is well packaged.
Coconut candy This is made from fresh coconut that is mixed with caramelised sugar.
Donkeys: This is my most preferred traditional sweet which is a soft, crumbly snack that is made from groundnuts, cornmeal, spices, and sugar.
Do you prefer to buy your sweets in formal stores or do you feel that street vendors have a more homemade taste?
I prefer to buy my sweets from street vendors because there is something about traditional preparation and the homemade methods of preparing traditional sweets. A lot of vendors make use of traditional recipes.
However, for this challenge, I visited formal stores that offer cleaner packaging and better hygiene.
