The Diary Game || 25-04-26 || Men in Black Matters at a Friend's Wedding — Best Weekend Ever
On a Saturday, I decided to have the best of weekends I have ever had and I actually thought since it was April, I might be placed as a fool on what you expected Vs what you got. But that was quite the opposite because it was a shutdown. Have you attended a grand wedding in Nigeria before? Let me tell you how grand this one was. It wasn't even about the wedding, but the whole day was meaningful.
It's been a long time since I had such a purposeful weekend. It all started when I prepared my learning challenge for the week on a Saturday morning. I've been so busy that I barely had the time to do certain things which annoyed me, reasons why I did it late. So I had to participate in a cooking learning challenge that morning to prepare my entry to the next day because if I didn't do so, there would be no time to do so.
Preparing Ofada Rice and Sauce |
|---|
Preparing Ofada Rice in the early hours of the morning was what I did and guess what, it was just so natural because I started my preparation around 6:30am and the breeze felt so friendly to me. I may not really explain how I prepared it, but I'll give you a tip.
It was my first time preparing this Yoruba kind of rice because we were told to prepare food from another culture and I couldn't think of any. So I went with Ofada rice and sauce and made sure it was on point. I cooked the rice first before cooking the sauce and I made an aesthetic with it using the banana leaves as my plate. Guess what, I also wore the Yoruba dress to match the culture all at once. It was the best feeling I could ever get from such.

Leaving for the Groom's Hotel |
|---|
After preparing my food, I ate it and left that morning to the hotel where we as groomsmen of the groom were expected to meet him for conveyance. I left the house in a hurry, not knowing I forgot my shoes. I had to go back despite the fact that I was late and we took them from where I kept them and left home a second time. I left with my friend and we used Google Maps to the place because it was our first time there.
When we arrived, it started raining. We got dressed in black suit and black tie and went all in with the groom and his best man. It was giving the aesthetics of Men in Black. We had a special car for conveyance. I was feeling it because I've never received this kind of treatment since I started doing groomsmen business for people. I was treated like a celebrity that day.
We were to meet with the bride at her hotel and take good pictures because that was where the photographers, content creators and videographers were and the hotel was giving class and expensive. Everywhere was a background to me because no place was looking inferior or cheap, even the steps and walls.

We aligned with the bride and her maids. They were looking splendid. The maids all wore pink gowns, the chief bridesmaid wore a white gown and the bride wore a beaded gown that was giving class. We took pictures along the aisle of the hotel. The lighting was just so perfect. These are some of the pictures we took before leaving for the marriage talk where they'll be bonded together.

Leaving the Hotel for Part 1 |
|---|
It was the first time I witnessed the bride and the groom arrive early to the kingdom hall. They came in and the hall was looking scanty, probably due to the rain and the fact that it was 30 minutes to the time. We got our seats in front, behind the bridesmaids and behind the couple who sat in front of the podium because it was their day. The weather was just so perfect for this moment. I took pictures of the program which if I were to give a rundown of activities, it would be from the talk, to the exchange of marital vows, song and prayer and order of photographs.
The wedding started in time and the speaker delivered the speech in the most soothing way. He spoke to the couple in particular, telling them why they need God as a third person in their marriage and why God wanted marriage to be a long lasting union. He also told them using the scriptures how they can thrive in their marriage even during challenges. The time came for the couple to publicly declare their vows in front of witnesses around them. They did so in such a beautiful way. It was entertaining though.

After the declaration of vows, a song was sung, prayer was said and the meeting ended in 50 minutes, no long talks. It was fine for photographs and the couple did have their photographs by their photographer. We as the groomsmen got a picture with the couple.

Leaving for the reception |
|---|
It was still raining though. We left after exchanging pleasantries with others. Our driver got our backs and we were taken to the reception where the fun was meant to be cracked. The background of the reception was heaven. The reception alone was speaking money. I definitely have a lot of videos to show you guys on Speem. I'll do that.
We took photographs even under that rain. We took mad shots and the photographs were giving men in black class category. There were bouncers in the reception and these bouncers were meant to coordinate the whole activity at the entrance. I felt something I haven't felt in years. Oh my.....It was a grand wedding and money was spent here to be honest with you.

The Reception Proper |
|---|
Guest were properly entertained for with cupcakes, small chops and beans cake with wine before even thinking of giving out main meals. That's when we marched into the reception hall. We stood in pairs, guarded by the bouncers as we danced gracefully for our guests to be entertained. You know me na. When it comes to dance, I'm always full option, no leave, no transfer, irreplaceable. I showed them how dancing can be done, though I was volatile.

The groom shocked me with his dancing steps as well. The bride was a tiktoker in the making. All of us delivered, especially the men in black. After the dance, we were given reputable chairs in front of the aisle to sit and watch the event unfold in a beautiful way. The MC was a comic relief. He made sure the moment was felt. The Air conditioners refined my breath in a special way.

And guess what? It was buffet style. Servers were highers to serve us and they did so in an hygienic way. We were served drinks and water first before food. While waiting for the food to arrive, the couple did their first assignment after cutting the cake and then, the MC played a game for couples in the event which was fun.

I enjoyed every bit of the occasion. Then came the food. I was served coconut and fried rice with a sizable chicken and salad. The food was prepared by professional caterers. This was the best coconut rice I've ever eaten. It's just indescribable. After eating and drinking my Malta drink, we were made to dance as if the world rotated around us. Trust me, I left no crumbs.
After the formal doings and preps, we went deep into dancing and drinking extras. I danced gracefully as if I was hired to dance. We did our photography things and then left to the hotel to get our things as the wedding was over by 5pm.

The night sit-out |
|---|
The groom then invited us for a sit-out for supporting him and making the event successful. We had another turn of food, proteins and drinks. Itt was in a round table and I got to know about people who came, people that were different. I had a discussion with them and we exchanged numbers. We had the best evening and night refreshment.
I was given the biggest lap of chicken in the food I was served with bean cake. It was on a different level. I thanked the couple for pulling out the best of the best and for being hospitable. I then boarded a bus and went home around 10pm. That was how my day ended in a fantastic way. It's been long I attended such a comfortable wedding. My Saturday wasn't a regret.
