SC-S32/W4-"Today's Writing, Tomorrow's Memories."—The Nature Diary.
Hello steemians, today I will be sharing with you all a wonderful time I had with nature at the Afi Barracks field. This dairy was done on June 17th 2026. I began my day be giving glory to God for seeing a new day. I was a bit sleepy and didn't want to wake up because it just rained that night, I was hoping that the day will be a sunny day and it turned out to be. I then did my chores, took my bath, ate breakfast. After that I went to visit my friend Ikechukwu77, we discussed on how we will soon be going to upload our O level results as we seek admission into the university. Then I went home and entered the steemit platform to check for any notifications and probably engage with other users.

After doing that I went ahead too look at the tomatoes and scent leaf that we planted at our backyard. I was here to check-up on how the plants were growing and also to feel the joy of nature. I discovered that the tomatoes where growing in good health and the scent leaf were thriving as well. The tomatoes is one most planted vegetables in my area because of how nourishing it is to the body, it's a body building and protect food that aids digestion and also helps in protecting cells from damage. The scent leaf on the other hand is known locally as "Ntong" in this area, it is a plant that is rich in vitamins and consumed for its digestive support, it is also used to create delicious meals like pepper soup and portage yam
After that I took a nap by 2:00 PM and when I woke up by 3:00. PM. I then took sometime to rest and had rice and stew for luch, This is a meal that I once hated as a child while growing up because I felt that rice is just cooked occasionally and I guess my taste buds don't like it but after some time as I became older It became one of my favorite meals. After I was done with the meal, I decided to visit the Afi Barracks field to feel the joy of being surrounded by nature.
I then took a photo some goats that were grazing at the field. This specie of goats are always found in this area, they are usually short and less hairy, they are mostly taken to the some parts of the fields by their owners to graze because they require grasses to survive and are helpful in reducing the sizes of the grasses, instead of cutting the graases with cutlases the goats are allowed to feed on them for survival.

As I got the field I could see that there were few individuals, I noticed that most people come to the field during 4:30 PM to 5:00 PM and I arrived at 4:00 PM to begin my natural observation and the atmosphere was at 23°c on my mobile phone i.e partly sunny and cloudy, I then began to take photos of the entrance and some captivating angles. The arena was peaceful and good, you would see individuals sit close to the trees to be surrounded by nature, it's a place where most people come for relaxation and comfort, I and friends often come here sometimes to enjoy watching footballers train and also get to feel the warming atmosphere.
As I was there experiencing nature first hand I decided to take a photo of my shadow. It was so Iconic, making me look taller, the photo reminds me of how my friends pet cat likes to follow shows at night. I must say that I was really happy to be surrounded by nature, I was just filled with the joy of seeing individuals walk around the fields and the beauty of the sunset. The area was fill with a lot of recreational activity options, from being by the road side to having volleyball court and a badminton court, it does not only represents nature but a mixture of recreation, lifestyle and hope.
The tress that are at the field are called the "soldier tree" because of the ability of it's leaf's to turn red when squeezed, often said to be used by soldiers during wars to paint their bodies like there have been shot when they were overpowered by their enemies. I also found out the trees are good to produce timber, but are being conserved for how it serves as shade for visitors and for how astonishing it makes the the place look. Over the years there were few trees here but with time they began reafforestation to make the place look good.
During the rainy season which we are currently experiencing, the environment of the field looks more good, you get to see wonderful view of alive plants and grasses, they area is usually at its finest during this season. Meanwhile in the dry season the whole atmosphere looks unpleasant because the leafs of trees falls off and the grasses begins to dry up, also bringing about an unorganized environment.

After the visit at the fields I followed my friend to his boss home, he was about to keep the house tidy before she arrives from work, his was more of the house keeper, we got there and we saw his boss son my name sake Emmanuel. We entered the house while I wait for him at the parlor to begin his work. After he was done, his boss son gave him his watch that was broken to fix, my friend is really good with electronics so he fixed the watch, the boy became happy and thanked him and then we left home.
Personal feelings & Lessons learned
As I stand among the green grasses, towering trees, grazing livestock, and the warmth of a sunny day, I am reminded of how small I am in the vastness of life, yet how deeply connected I am to it. These simple surroundings taught me and perhaps all of us that genuine happiness is not measured by the things we own, but by our ability to appreciate the blessings already around us. They continue to empower me to live a life of gratitude, humility, and respect for nature's balance, while reminding us all that a peaceful and meaningful life often grows from harmony with the world rather than the pursuit of endless possessions.
There were a lot of lessons Iearnt for this natural environment, firstly was that nature reminds the systemic process of growth, just as the grases and the trees don't get strong overnight. I was about the know that being around a natural surrounding that contains tress teaches resilience, how trees continue to stand even as the season changes constantly, leafs falling off and growing again. I was able to learn patience from livestocks, on how they follow a routine and continue to be dependent on the natural environment for survival, and the suns in the sky continue to tell me that even after darkness, light will surely return.
