Scenic Hilltop Orchard & Apple Farming in Kashmir

Today we visited one of our orchards, which is located on top of a hill. Reaching this orchard is an adventure in itself. The road leading up to it is completely unpaved and quite challenging. For this reason, we use an old vehicle that may not look fancy, but it is powerful enough to handle the steep and rough terrain.

Today, my parents and I went to the orchard because this is the time when the apples are growing rapidly. As the fruits become larger and heavier, the branches start bending under their weight, increasing the risk of breaking and causing the apples to fall. That’s why this season is one of the busiest times of the year for us. We also had to spray fungicides today because the rainy season creates ideal conditions for diseases to attack apple trees, making timely protection very important.

The journey to the orchard is never easy. The road is steep, rocky, and slippery in places, so there is always an element of risk. Fortunately, we have become used to driving on this route over the years. Even so, my vehicle slipped at one point today, but thankfully, we stayed safe and the vehicle wasn’t damaged.

While I was there, I tried to show you different varieties of apples. They are currently at different stages of development—some are still green and immature, while others have already started developing their beautiful color. In just a few more days, they will be harvested and taken to the market, where buyers will purchase them. That is the moment when we finally see the result of an entire year’s hard work. We sincerely hope that all our efforts will pay off and bring us a good harvest and a profitable season.

This hill stands right in front of our village, and once you reach the top, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding villages. The scenery is truly beautiful. In the evening, cool mountain breezes flow through the orchard, providing a refreshing escape from the heat and humidity of the lower areas. Spending time here at sunset feels incredibly peaceful—almost like being in paradise.
