Explore and Review

There are many places to visit around us, but some places are strangely etched in our minds. For me, Basulia Chapra Beel, located between Basail and Sakhipur upazilas of Tangail, is just such a place. It is not just a viral tourist spot, but it is a wonderful canvas for nature lovers and photographers. Recently, I spent a day at this magical place from my uncle's house (Nalua) with about 10 members of my family, which was exciting and enjoyable at the same time.

Spot Introduction

  • Place Name: Basulia Chapra Beel (viral Hijal tree spot).

  • Location: Nalua area, on the border of Basail and Sakhipur upazilas, Tangail district, Dhaka division, Bangladesh.

  • Why is it popular: The rushing water during the rainy season, the beautiful road passing through the middle of the beel and the biggest attraction is the ancient and huge Hijal tree standing alone on the chest of the beel. Such a combination of nature, water and history has made it very popular.

First Viewing Experience

Entrance environment: The distance from Uncle's house, Nalua, to the beel was not far. As soon as you reach the beel from Nalua on Sakhipur Road, you are greeted by a fresh breeze and open nature. The row of green and blue boats on the water catches your eye at first sight.

Cleanliness: The spot is naturally quite clean, but due to the pressure of excessive tourists, some garbage is sometimes seen.

First impression: The Hijal trees standing in the middle of the vast water body are an incredible sight. It seems that nature has spread a peaceful canvas.

Photographic highlights: The biggest highlight of taking pictures here is the ancient Hijal tree and the row of colorful boats on the water. The golden reflection of the sun on the water of the beel during sunset creates a magical scene.

Flowers, trees, water bodies, mountains, sunsets, etc.: The gurgling water of the beel during the monsoon, the wide horizon of the Hijal trees, and the magical sunset in the afternoon. In autumn, the play of light clouds doubles the beauty of the picture.

Color and light: The golden light (golden hour) that falls on the water of the beel and the leaves of the trees when the sun sets in the west in the afternoon is the most suitable time to take pictures.

Best Spots to Take Pictures

What angles give good pictures: Low-angle shots or shots taken from the boat's stern give great frames.

Wide shot, portrait or close-up opportunities:
  • Wide Shot: Wide shots are best for capturing the entire beel, sky and the Hijal tree in the frame.

  • Portrait: Portraits look great on colorful boats or on the bank of a beel near a dam.

  • Close-up: There is an opportunity to take close-up shots of lotus or Hijal tree leaves floating on the water.

Crowd and Environment

How crowded is it?:
Although it is quiet on normal days, it gets very crowded on holidays (Fridays or government holidays).

Is it quiet or busy?:
It is quite quiet and peaceful in the morning but becomes a bit noisy with the arrival of tourists before evening.

Amenities and Disadvantages

Seats: There are some seating areas adjacent to the embankment on the banks of the beel and benches in front of a small tea shop. In addition, there is a covered seating area (hut/pavilion) in the beel, where tourists can sit and relieve fatigue.

Parking: For those who bring their own bikes, there is a very nice and safe motorcycle parking facility in the area, the fee for which is only 30 taka.

Toilets: Being an open natural place, basic quality toilet facilities are available in the nearby local markets or shops.

Food stalls: Tea shops, fried food, dab, and light snack shops have been established along the road to the beel. Before boarding the boat on the beel, buying some dry food or light snacks as we did will double the pleasure of wandering around the beel.

Security measures: The area is tourist-friendly, and the local people are quite sincere. However, you need to be careful while getting into the water or boarding the boat.

Entry Price and Time

Price of ticket if available: Entry to Basulia Beel is completely free. No entry ticket is required.

Opening and closing times: This is an open space, so it is open 24 hours a day (but it is safer and more convenient to go before sunset).

Tips for Photographers

When to go for good pictures:
Mornings in soft light or between 4:00 and 5:30 in the afternoon (Golden Hour) are the best times to take pictures.

What type of camera or lens is suitable:
A good quality smartphone or DSLR. Wide lenses are ideal for landscapes and prime lenses for portraits.

Can drones be used? What or not:
Since it is an open rural beel, there are no administrative restrictions on the use of drones, making it a great place for drone shots.

Own Experience

Which scene did you like the most: When I rode a boat under the ancient Hijal trees in the middle of a huge beel and saw the colorful boat fair, that scene has been etched in my heart. It was truly thrilling.

What kind of photos did you take: We took a family group photo, a wide landscape shot of Hijal trees, and an aesthetic portrait photo in the afternoon light. The Hijal of Love sign, the symbol of the spot, in one of the photos also catches the eye.

Any special moments: The laughter and joy that we captured in the frames in the open air with 10 members of the family is truly incomparable. The most enjoyable and memorable moment was taking a bath in the water with 10 of us together at sunset.

Travel and expense experience: We reserved an auto from my uncle's house in Nalua for a trip with the entire family of 10 members. Our total auto fare for the return trip was 600 taka.

Financial details: Today, our total expenditure for the entire family of 10 was 2,000 taka, which is equivalent to 432.90 STEEM or 16.31 USDT at current exchange rates.

Overall Evaluation

  • How suitable for new photographers: 9/10. It is a great learning spot to practice framing, understanding lighting, and capturing natural scenes.

  • Recommendation for family, friends, or tourists: A great place for a day of refreshment with family or friends. The whole family of 10 people bathing and walking together in the open air was the most wonderful experience.

  • A special responsible request: Please do not damage these ancient traditional Hijal trees for our pleasure. Climbing on the branches or breaking the branches while taking pictures is absolutely inappropriate. If we destroy this natural resource today, our future generations will not be able to see this beauty. Therefore, it is our responsibility to respect nature and preserve it.

  • Your rating out of 10 (Rating out of 10): 9.5/10
