The three main popular methods of fundraising for a new project or startup in the world of cryptocurrency and blockchain are ICO (Initial Coin Offering), IEO (Initial Exchange Offering) and IDO (Initial DEX Offering). Like IPOs in traditional financial markets, these also raise capital from general investors by opening new tokens to the market. However, there are several fundamental differences between the way these three methods work, security and regulation. ICO is the first and most decentralized fundraising method in the crypto world. Here, the exchange itself thoroughly audits and background checks the project's team, smart contracts, and financial transparency. Only after receiving the green signal from the exchange, the token is listed for sale on their launchpad. As a result, the risk of scams in IEO is much lower and there is a big advantage in starting trading the token on that exchange directly after the launch. IDO is a completely decentralized or DeFi system fundraising method. In this, the token sale is managed through a decentralized exchange (DEX) or launchpad (such as Polkastarter or Raydium) without relying on any centralized exchange or team. The biggest advantage of IDO is that as soon as the token sale is completed, liquidity is added directly to the liquidity pool of the decentralized exchange. As a result, investors can instantly trade or swap tokens using their own crypto wallet (such as MetaMask) without any intermediaries or long waits. This is a very fast, low-cost and decentralized process. In short, ICO is a direct and unregulated method, IEO is a secure medium audited by a centralized exchange, and IDO is the fastest fundraising model of DeFi or decentralized systems.
