What Does it Take to Get People to Actually READ Your Steemit Posts?

I suppose the question I bring up in the title of this post is something we have all pondered, from time to time.

Maybe it's something all content creators think about.

After all, isn't getting and building a readership the basic reason most of us create content?

It's easy to get lost in the land of only worrying about upvotes, and forgetting all about getting people to actually read things. After all, I'm willing to bet that lots of people are only part of the Steemit community in order to earn a few extra dollars.

But here's the thing: living on just clever clickbait and trying to get around playing the long game of getting actual followers who will become loyal to you... really doesn't serve most people very well.

And I say that as somebody who will soon have been here for 10 years, doing this!

One of the slightly sad things I have learned along the way is that we often have to get our actual readers from locations outside the framework of Steemit.

For example, that's how I found my way here, originally. I read an article — that just happened to have been published on Steemit — via a link someone sent to me on Facebook... and so I ended up here. It had nothing to do with money or "purchased upvotes" or "bid bots" or anything like that.

There's a difference between creating content you think might catch an upvote and creating content designed to get the attention of content consumers. Bid bots are a one-time thing, while a content consumer will be there for the long haul.. especially if you have something interesting to say!

Don't get me wrong: I do appreciate getting rewards for my posts, and sometimes it has been my Steemit rewards that enabled me to make "emergency purchases" I otherwise would not have been able to... like desperately needed new tires for our truck, and such.

But the point I am trying to make here is that I am primarily here as a content creator, and those rewards simply follow as a consequence, while not being my primary motivator.

In terms of attracting actual readers, that seems to work best when I publish something that appeals to some niche interet group, and than talk about the post in "external" locations like Instagram, Facebook, twitter/X and such.

Parts of what gets bloggers read is also sharing something unique and genuinely interesting (or useful) that you definitely would not be able to get from any kind of "generic" AI driven slop you could find in a million other places.

In most cases, people are mostly interested in human stories that they can relate to.

I always looked at Steemit as being about "The Internet of PEOPLE," rather than just information and data.

And no, I don't claim to have the answers to everything! Far from it...

I just like the idea that people actually take the time to read what I have written... it's about more than just the money!

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great Sunday!

How about YOU? Is it important to you that people actually READ your posts? Or do you only care about the "rewards number?" Leave a comment if you feel so inclined — share your experiences — be part of the conversation!
