SHARING OUR SHEEP AND GOATS!

in #homesteading8 years ago

Useful for us, and useful for others too!

Finally, I've got something useful to lend to some of my neighbors! Yeah, you've probably seen me borrow front-end loaders, bobcats, and all sorts of heavy machinery from some of my neighbors. Now, it's payback time!

PAYBACK TIME - WHO WANTS TO BORROW A GRASS-POWERED LAWNMOWER?

PROPER PROPERTY MAINTENANCE WITH ANIMALS

First off, these animals are not pets here on our homestead. We have our animals for specific reasons. As far as our sheep and goats are concerned, they are basically grass-powered edible lawnmowers that will hopefully provide us with wool, milk, manure, meat, hides, and also more sheep and goats. While we wait for them to grow and reproduce, they help "tame" the woods and trim the fields.

Yesterday we took three of our goats over to one neighbor and two of our sheep to another. This overgrown pen in the photo above is one example of a great "job" for some of these animals. If the animals eat down the plants, then that is a lot less effort that someone had to invest with a weed trimmer and it is also more cost effective than buying gas for a lawnmower.

Rico and Dave Ramsey were eager to help clear the pen. I'm not sure how many days it'll take them to tidy this place up, but we'll be keeping an eye on them. The two sheep were given this job, and the three goats will be keeping some grass pathways in a garden mowed.

Of course, being goats, they'll also trim a few other things like the low hanging branches on this tree. For us, it was one good way to be able to bless some of the neighbors that have been a blessing to us!

As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:

LOL - Chubby lawnmowers?!?!?! - I love it!

Ha ha, your little lawnmower actually looks happy to be picked up. Maybe it's because of its coloring, but it looks very content. :P

He's a happy little guy! Four months old now!

He was born the day after we picked up our flock! Here's his birthday photo!

And a quick video for those who are interested.

That baby's bleat is adorable. I would probably get annoyed by it after a while, but it's cute.

The mother won't charge you for getting too close, will she?
