Most people assume it's glyphosate that is causing the problem as it's the main ingredient in Round Up. Glyphosate is actually a organic compound, Monsanto uses it because it has the ability to form a chelate, glyphosate, that contain organic ligands that can get minerals to stick to a compound. So in essence it is a binder added to ingredients to make them stick to the plants....it's the added ingredients that make Round Up harmful...(this may get a bit confusing but stick with me on it I think you will get it in the end)...those added ingredients are approved pesticides by the FDA...which are also supposed to be safe to use for human consumption....BUT everything is made of chemical compounds and naturally when you add one chemical compound to another chemical compound it changes it's structure such as with the case of glyphosate being added to polyethaxylated tallou amine, the EPA inert ingredients of approved pesticide....that mix now forms a new chemical called 1,4-dioxanne, 1,4-dioxane is carcinogenic and is known to cause damage to the liver, kidney, brain and lungs. So now you may understand why Monsanto will go to court and try and argue that glyphosate is safe to use...because it is, it's an organic compound, though I have read articles on the issue that even if it wasn't contaminated with the pesticides there is concern with what would be the proper amount that can be used for human consumption because our bodies make it's own glyphosate and would adding additional glyphosate to the diet intervene with that natural process....sort of like the same debate you hear about steroid use. It's mischievous at best on the part of Monsanto not to bring up the chemical structure change that takes place once you contaminate the glyphosate.
